Okay Guys, 2nd post for me as a proud owner of a 07 Black SG. I put 330 miles on it sunday. The only issue I encountered was my seat. The original seat is very comfy but the long haul will take its toll on you. I would like to have some input on recommended seats for my bike. Any help would be appreciated.
You're going to get a litany of opinions on this, friend. We have the Sundowner on our RK. In fact, I've had it on every Harley I've owned. Swear by em.
I have the Sundowner.
It's way better then the stock seat, it does put you a little lower and foward a inch or so. I plan to send it off to have it redone to move me back a couple inchs. Maybe in the winter.
Passengers sure like it better.
Did same research and read all threads for 2007 SG seats about a month ago after taking deliver of my 2007 Vivid Black SG. As you've already seen here from TomCat101, top 2 seats for this bike (based on popularity and response in this forum) are definitely H-D Sundowner and Mustang (either solo with/without pasdsenger pillionor 2-up). Had Mustang on 2002 Low Rider and loved it.Distant 3rds/4ths in popularity seem to be Corbin (some love 'em, many hate 'em - I'm one who hates 'em - HARD AS A ROCK), then C&C, etc.
I went a little crazy do to getting 2 great deals: Have smooth Sundowner from zanottimotors.com (absolute best prices on H-D parts on Internet - almost 3% off what I pay at local H-D dealer in Texas with 8.25% tax). Got Sundowner for 230.00+ a few bucks shipping. Next best dealer is Chillicothe(sp?) Ohio H-D dealer that sells under name of 00cycles on eBay (all H-D parts 20% off retail, low cost shipping is cheaper than local sales tax, making it about 25% less for me). I've orderd lots of nbew H-D parts from both. Great deals and great customer service.
I also snagged a deal on craigslist.com and got a like-newMustang (79100) Solo withdriver removable/adjustable driver backrest (can add passenger pillion later) that I got for50% off retail (retail about $480, best prince new on Internet about $410, I got for $240 inc. shipping.
Anyway, you'll hear peoplesaying they ride 500-700-+ miles in a day on both seats. I rode about 2.5 hours without getting off Sundowner the other day (about as long as I can stay in any saddle) and was happy iwth theseat. If youdon't care about looks, you could go up to the H-D Comfort Stich (stock on Ultra Classic), but will look like you bolted a couch on your beautiful SG. I haven't ridden on Mustang yet as I'm waiting for fender bib and 2 solo seat nuts to bolt iton. Like many, I found small scratches on rear fender just behind solo seat bolts (also whererider backrest bracket mounts), requiring a fender bib when solo is mounted so as not to show scratches.
I hear ya brother....the stock SG seat looks great and is fine for short-med hauls but after a 400+km ride it is a killer. I switched to a new Ultimate Seats two-up and it is unbelievably comfortable...THE most comfortable seat I have ever used....no plastic liner underneath so it can breathe which is a big difference...you just can't let it get 'soaking wet'...if it looks like rain then I throw the rain cover on it. Only drawback right now is that I am not a big fan of the look but they are apparently changing that....good luck. www.ultimateseats.com
