YES THERE ARE BIG ADVANTAGES TO COOLING DOWN AN AIR COOLED HD IN SUMMER HEAT

I also have a stock 09 ultra (now 28k miles)that used to bake me in summer heat that would make it detonate,loose significant amount of pwr/trq,throttle response was mushy,oil pressure went to crap esp at idle(7-8psi @ idle & 32-35psi @ cruise),lifters/valve train & motor in general would make more noise etc.

I installed Wards cooling fans (like Love Jugs new smaller Mighty Mites?) along with a thermostatically controlled fan assisted oil cooler both at
the same time and wow what a diff that made right off the bat which were as follows:

* OIL TEMP IN SUMMER HEAT WAS REDUCED UP TO 50DEG F.

In summer heat oil temp used to hit 250-275 deg f in avg stop/go traffic & 235-245+ @ cruise.

Now in summer heat oil temp runs approx 225-235 deg f in avg stop/go traffic & 195-200deg f @ cruise in same summer riding cond.

* OIL PRESSURE @ IDLE WENT FROM 7-8 TO NOW 17-18PSI & OIL PRESSURE @ CRUISE WENT FROM 32-35PSI TO NOW 45-47PSI
IN SAME HEAT COND WITH SAME OIL.

* VALVE TRAIN/LIFTERS & MOTOR NOW REMAIN QUIET.

* NO MORE DETONATION

* MOST OF THE POWR/TRQ THE MOTOR USED TO LOOSE IN SUMMER IS NOW RETAINED.

* THROTTLE RESPONSE RETAINS IT'S CRISP FEELING TOO.

* HOT RESTARTS POST FUELING UP ARE QUICKER/EASIER WITH NO HESITATION BECAUSE MOTOR/BATTERY/STARTER
ARE NOT AS OVERHEATED/HEAT SOAKED.

* RIDERS ARE NOT HIT WITH AS MUCH EXTREME HEAT IN SUMMER CON WHICH REALLY MADE THE BIKE MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE TO RIDE
IN SUMMER HEAT.

* OIL/MOTOR RUNNING CONSIDERABLY COOLER WILL EXTEND SERVICE OF THE MOTOR AND ALL COMPONENTS WITHIN THE MOTOR LIKE GASKETS/SEALS/RUBBING BLOCKS ON TENSIONERS ON THE CAM CHAIN & PRIM CHAIN ,ETC.

But keep in mind i installed 2 cooling system mods (twin cooling fans & oil cooler with twin cooling fans too) both at the same to get those great results and to not expect the same results (50deg f redcution in oil temp) i got in summer heat if you dont install both the same type cooling system mods at the same time like i did omn my 09 Ultra for a max cooling effort which is by far the best money i have spent for anything on my HD to date because of all the benefits i got from it right off the bat after doing it.
