CB Questions
2011 FLTRU
I have some questions about the CB:
1. I have two antennae on the TourPak. Which is the CB antenna, and what is the best Harley CB antenna?
2. I hear the radio when I'm on the CB. The radio drops when I hit PTT, but how do I just stay on CB and not hear anything else but CB?
TIA

Look at both antenna closely at the base. There may be in very small letter FM or CB. Or there may be a Loading Coil on one of the antenna down near the base. Also observe which lug on the trunk you connect the CB and FM antenna to. If you tune to a distant FM station then touch each antenna you should hear a different noise when you touch the FM antenna. Setting the SWR is difficult on a motorcycle, but if you find someone who can do it you will get your system operating at it's optimum (on a motorcycle optimum is relative).
Harley sells a shorty (not the rubber duck) antenna that works pretty well on the CB. I would stay away from J&M products, but that is just me. You will want to make sure your ground wire inside the trunk is solidly attached and no corroded, and you may want to run a ground wire from that bolt under your trunk to the frame. A good ground is mandatory.
If I remember the Harmon Kardin radio, if you are viewing the Radio in Radio mode, turn down the volume, then press to put it in CB mode and you can control the volume in CB mode. Or you can turn down the radio volume when the CB is not receiving, and turn the CB volume up by turning the squelch all the way until you hear white noise then adjust the cb volume to your liking and readjust the squelch for quiet.
