Default That Itty Bitty Throw out Bearing. Who would have thought.

A few weeks ago I picked up a 1995 road King. When I test rode it I noticed the clutch was not disengaging all the way. Thought it needed adjusting. When i got it home I pulled the derby cover and the oil was all the up to the bottom of the cover. I drained the oil and pulled the primary cover. It had a Hayden chain adjuster and the aluminum shoe had come out and got chewed up. Aluminum shavings all in primary. Disassembled clutch . Cleaned and checked plates for warpage. It is a Rivera/Primo clutch. All good. Reassembled with a new chain and and adjuster. Adjusted clutch per manual. Same problem. Bought the itty bitty throw out bearing and installed. Boom. Problem solved. Who would have thought.

Thumbs up

That's a mix-up of things going on there! Great clutch, shame about the other things around it that went wrong. Here's to plenty of trouble-free miles.

Was it an itty-bitty bearing, or a teensy-weensy baring? There IS a difference, & they are NOT interchangeable

What was wrong with, what I am guessing is, the throw out bearing? And why did it prevent disengagement?

Now you can tear it apart again, and replace the engine mainshaft seal-because that's probably where the extra oil came from.

Your guess is as good as mine. I tried everything else. Replaced throw out bearing. Problem solved.

I hope not. I am just going to ride it for now. Keep an eye on it. And. See what happens. Hopefully the PO just put too much oil in primary.

Every time I hear about throw out bearings I am reminded of my first car at 16. It was a '66 red Mustang convertible I bought for $100. Me and my buddies couldn't figure out why we couldn't get it going. Gave it back to the farmer we got it from. Later he said it was a $5 throw out bearing. Sigh.........
