Hi all, I am trying to source and replace the stator socket and plug. mine is 27 years old and gone hard and is also damaged with arcing. Any clues where I can buy one please.<br />Its for 1992 Electra Glide FLHTC.
Maybe you should be looking at replacing that 27 yr old stator. They don't last forever.
Just replacing the plug doesn't bring them back to life. Check these guys out. They
sell the best there is. http://www.cycleelectricinc.com/
Thanks for your reply. The bike has only done 37000 miles and stator is working fine " at the moment". Certainly worth exploring, I will look at cost and labour.
Regards
Thanks. Next question, standard or higher amps. Decisions. lol
The standard stator is 32 amp. Unless you have added a lot of electric accessories there is no need for more
amps. The reliability of stators is more dependent on the condition of the windings than mileage. If there's been
arcing that may have caused heat stress on them. Replacing the stator on a '92 is fairly easy.
According to the parts department, the plug and socket are NOT replaceable. It is an entire unit, so if you have a bad plug and socket, you gotta replace the stator. According to Harley. Since the lead wires are cast into the stator, they're probably correct.
Is it the regulator plug , which is female or the stator plug which is male ? If it's just the regulator plug i would find a bad or used one and cut it off and splice it together or just replace the regulator.
