Default Exhaust Interchangeability

I currently have a D&D Fatcat 2-1 exhaust with perforated baffle that came on the '15 SG when bought.
The sound is great, but I'm looking to quiet it down for two reasons - 1) I need to take it to inspection and they will bag me for it for sure; 2) wife.
-Does each exhaust have their own fitting headers, or are headers and mufflers interchaneable?
-Can I just put on a different brand 2-1 muffler and keep the D&D headers, or do I need to change the whole exhaust?
-Would a stock muffler fit the current 2-1 headers?
While I searched for this information, I couldn't find anything specific. With cars, I know some headers are universal to catbacks, others not.

On a side note, if anyone has the louvered baffle they are willing to sell or trade for, please let me know. I'd even be willing to trade complete exhaust for a quieter one, preferably keeping the 2-1 setup.
Thanks in advance.

Can you get a quieter baffle from D&D?

I think buying or changing out the baffle would be last on the preference list, and just a nice to have in addition to, because I heard the difference between the two baffles is not much based on the responses on the forum.
Change out the muffler, or exhaust for quieter is what I'd like to do. I just need to know if I can keep the headers and attach a quieter muffler or if I need to change the complete system.

I would think that any other slip on would not align properly

I agree..... It will be a crap shoot....

Most slip-ons are made to fit the OEM HD header, as the muffler companies are trying to get a piece of the Harley exhaust mod cash cow, and not everyone springs for a full exhaust.

I've never owned/installed a D&D exhaust. Check their web site and see if the muffler you have on your full exhaust, is also sold as a slip on, for HD bikes.... if it is, and it's the same part number as your muffler, then it would suggest the D&D & OEM HD headers terminate in the same location and anything fitting OEM should bolt right up...

In any case, it's a 2-1 exhaust... if header pipe OD dimensions are the same, you should be able to make a compatible diameter muffler work for an inspection (spacers, washers, etc), although it might not look real good.... to please the wife, you may have to spend for a new exhaust system...

Good luck...

You might want to add NJ to your note. They won't let you pump your own gas. NO way I would let a stranger with a metal nozzle anywhere near my bike.

Give Fuel Moto a call, I think they have a muffler that fits the D&D header, it's similar to a Supertrap muffler that uses multiple discs to tune the noise level. It's called their E-series muffler, I've also heard that a Rush wrath muffler will fit, but not sure if that can be purchased separately.

The D&D header outlet is bigger than a conventional 2-1-2 header outlet. I don’t know the measurement but like others have said, call D&D and/or Fuel Moto.
