Default Shifter

A friend of mine has an older road king (06 or 07 I think). The shifter didn't return up one day. I know there is threads about the ratchet pawl spring causing this issue but I can't find it. If anyone can reply with a link, or other ideas on what could cause this it would help. Thanks,

Chris

Maybe a shifting arm , you should be able to look at it and tell, if not maybe take it to a shop because your over your head.

The forward shift shaft can get dry (no lube) and become prone to bind and even a properly working centering spring can't return the shift linkage to center. Lube that front shaft and the linkage pivots before going into the transmission. It just might be that easy.

Check that the shift linkage didn’t slip from the spline. Known Harley problem and happened to me twice before I replaced the entire shift rod and linkage.

This thread might help
https://www.hdforums.com/forum/evo-c...wl-spring.html

I had something similar happen to my 2002 FLHTCUI, I could shift it but I had to keep pressure on the shift lever to keep it in gear. On my bike they replaced the "Spring, Detent Arm" (P/N 33374-00). It was a $1.50 spring and 3.75 hours labor to replace it.

A $50.00 spring … that was the deductible I had to pay, the rest was covered by ESP.
