Default Throttle cable routing

I have a 97 Ultra Classic and I recently took the throttle cables off in order to get the inner fairing off for painting. When I put the throttle cables back on, they both seem very loose and long. Especially the “release” cable. Do they need to be routed a certain way through the fairing? Any help would be appreciated.

They should be routed through the rubber grommet around the handlebars where they go thru the fairing, then they go along the frame under the tank...

thats where they’re running. I’ll pull the outer fairing off this afternoon and take a look in there. I must’ve done something different/wrong. It worked perfectly fine before.
Thanks
