Default Road glide issue

Ok so my buddy has a 1998 Road glide he bought from a friend. Bike has no forward gears and no noises from the trans, you can shift the gears with the clutch out with no noise while the engine is running. There is some noise in the compensator area only when running, not shutting it off. Methinks its either a bad compensator or maybe striped clutch basket or bad clutch. Havent torn into it yet.

Any thoughts or known problems?

I'm not good at guessing games, pull the primary cover already it only takes 3 minutes.

The TC 88’s didn’t have comp issues, however, the compensator nut came loose on my 06 and made a quite a racket, but would move forward. May want to check that.

Will the bike lock in to gear when not running? Ie. if in gear and you rock back and forth and feel the stops, or is it like its in neutral?

Like steelerdude1 says, can you lock it in gear with it not running? All the suggestions you stated I would think it will make a hellva racket with it running and trying to go in gear, you sure the lever arm to the trans is still attached and not rotating on the shaft as if the splines were stripped?

Does it have a drive belt? LOL I love these posts, I have more time typing this (yes I'm a slow at typing) than it does to pull cover and see what is going on or isn't in this case.

Do a proper inspection and diagnosis, why play guessing games...

You're probably gonna need to repost your question in the EVO section of this forum. However; don't do that until you pull the outer primary off and have more information. There typically aren't any known primary issues with EVOs.

my trans sprocket nut came undone, transprocket came off, took out the fifth gear and wasted the inner primary.
