Default Tour pack conversion

New to the forum, so this has probably already been covered. Want to convert my 2012 ultra tour pack to be able to take it off. Pretty easy conversion, or more of a pain in the a**? 90% of my riding is solo, rarely multi day.

You can see what's involved by going to the H-D website and the Parts tab, where you can find a quick detach kit for your bike, plus the instructions on how and what to do, before you buy.

Did it on my 05 Electra Glide and again immediately after I bought my 17 Road Glide. I love having the option. I will say this though.... the only drawback is on both bikes, the tour pack tends to have a small bit of play in the docking hardware.

The docking point cam that the detachable rack mounts to can be rotated to tighten up the play. They are elliptical shape and have marks on them for this reason.

Shows the docking points ability to rotate 90 degrees to tighten up the play.

Did not know this!!! Thank you for that Timbo!!! The dealer installed it on my 17 and never mentioned they could be adjusted. My 05 was didn't have this feature. I'll have to experiment with it I guess.

I always wanted to get the quick detach kit for the tourpak whenever I got a ultra classic. But after getting used to the tourpak it's really convenient and useful. So I never spent the money on a detach kit.

I bought the rack for Tor pak and detachable hardware from Hogworkz and Bought a plate frame and plate holder from Custom Dynamics. I had to drill my fender but I think it looks good.

It's not a bad job to do. If you ride solo, you could get a tour pak quick detach that allows you to use the tour pak as a back rest.

Thanks for all your responses! I’m thinking it’s gonna happen. I like both looks, and the option to switch.
