I currently have a 2019 Ultra Classic and I am trying to run a USB A splitter from the GTS headunit to both the fairing cubby and to the tourpak (via 16' USB cable). In this desired USB configuration, I am able to hard-connect my iPhone 13 Pro Max in to both the cubby and the tourpak and it will play audio. But here's the problem....I want to use Apple CarPlay.

So far, It seems that I can only utilize Apple CarPlay when the iPhone is directly connected to the GTS headhunt without the splitter inline.

I am wondering if anyone has had any luck to get either Android Auto or Apple CarPlay to work on their GTS head unit while ALSO using a USB splitter?

The original goal was to primarily use Apple CarPlay while my HUGEA$$ iPhone was hard-connected in the touringpak, while leaving the fairing cubby open for USB sticks and or pushing data updates for the head unit.

Please advise. Thanks in advance!!!
Just use a USB extender cable. Connect it inside the cubby & run it to the back. Plug in the extension & connect your phone via the Apple charge cord plugged into the USB extension. When you need to do software updates, unplug the USB extender in the cubby, plug your USB stick into the original USB cable & do your updates, then remove the USB stick & reconnect the USB extender. Easy peasy.

FWIW I use one of these on my HDHU14 (appreciate you are running the stock HU)

Anker 4-Port USB 3.0 Ultra Slim Data Hub for Macbook Anker 4-Port USB 3.0 Ultra Slim Data Hub for Macbook
  • OEM H-D usb connector into the joke {sic} box compartment
  • port 1 (the furthest away from the door) I have a UGREEN 6ft usb extension lead USB 3.0 Male A to Female A to saddle bag (ORZLY USB C cable to droid jacked into it)
  • port 4 (the one right at the door) I have a 32GB SanDisk Ultra filled with mp3s
  • middle 2 remaining hub slots empty
in the event I need to do something WITHOUT the hub I can simply remove it from the OEM USB cable in the joke-box compartment (e.g firmware updates)

...Your Mileage May Vary

*OEM HDHU14 says NO splitters allowed but the above works great

Can you confirm whether you're able to connect via Android Auto or Apple CarPlay to the GTS headunit? The splitter I bought works as far as USB connectivity is concerned, but it will not allow Apple CarPlay to run.

Assuming other people confirm that the GTS headunit ONLY allows direct connection for Apple CarPlay (no splitter allowed), I will do something similar to this. I was just trying to poll the community, as I'm sure other people have tried this.

I purchased the "CarPlay2Air" wireless adapter for my 2019 CVO. Apple CarPlay works fine with my iPhone 13 in my shirt pocket. The wireless adapter plugs into the USB cable in the phone caddy on the bike. Once installed, CarPlay connects automatically on every startup.

at the weekend yes. My buddy has the GTS and WHIM and it'll take two secs to plug my hub into his USB and test for you

....but as my post said, my head-unit says NO SPLITTERS OR HUBS and Android Auto works fine with that hub in place

That's an interesting idea. Unfortunately, I believe wireless CarPlay is connected via WiFi, which will kill the phone battery significantly faster than bluetooth or obviously a direct connection. I'm trying to get my rig squared away for the 14.5 hour trip to Sturgis this year.

I've been doing some digging and it seems like some people are able to add a USB hub and connect via Android Auto, but I have yet to see anyone have success with CarPlay. Such a strange issue.

On long ride days, I plug in a USB charger in my tour pack if the battery needs charging but seldom have I needed to do so.

I have the same wireless setup but the Appleplay has a mind of its own and have to unplug and replug the airplay when it gets stubborn. I was thinking of a usb switch linked to an aux button to simulate the unplug issue.
