Default USB Splitter

Sorry I didn't take any detailed photos, but with the new HD Android Auto released, I just had to do something about my big *** Note8 sticking out of the dash cubby...that **** wasn't gonn'a cut it.

I got a USB splitter and ran one end into the cubby and the other "skillfully and carefully" along the backbone and into the TourPac with the use of a 10' USB "A" to "C" extension cable.

It looks absolutely factory and works great! Now my frigg'n "LARGE" phone can homestead in the TourPac, rather than dangling around in the cubby.
It was a big job but the front wheel is off anyway waiting for a new tire from Rocky Mountain ATV.

I also relocated the Sirius XM to the top of the dash...we'll see how that works, otherwise it's going back under the fairing.

Nice job on the relo. I have my XM antenna mounted on top of the Boom and the only time I lose reception is under extreme canopy.

I, too, have a big-*** samsung that won't fit in the cubby and want to use AA without it hanging out the door. I was going to start a post when I saw this one. Never thought of a splitter for the USB. I don't have a tourpak but I'm thinking of running it under the sear to the rider back rest where I can fish it out for longer trips.

How did you get the splitter end into the cubby? From the back end?

Unplug the factory USB from the head unit and the rubber plug in the back of the cubby pops out going the direction of the door. It is not bonded to the USB cable, I used an Xacto knife to split one side, peeled it off and used it on the new splitter cable, just fished it in. Ya have to use the OEM USB because of the end they use on the head unit. I sealed the connections with large shrink tube because otherwise they would not be weatherproof. I should have taken photos, but you get the idea...

Seems like too much work for a usb cable. I just plug my phone into the charger in the tourpak and connect it to the radio through Bluetooth.

I think you missed the point, it's so you can use AndriodAuto in the tourpac. AndroidAuto does not Bluetooth. It must be hard wired (at least for now...)

Big miss for HD for not having Bluetooth connectivity . This company is years behind other makers . I would love to use the Android auto but my Note 9 does not fit the compartment .

Well...We DO have BT connectivity. That's how our phones talk.
Wireless AndroidAuto is still a rarity, only available in a few cars at this time. AndroidAuto need large amount of bandwidth, far exceeding what BT can provide, the answer is WiFi connectivity and it's hardware built into the radio (generally). I agree that MoCo is not exactly leading the pack in many cases, but as far as wireless Android Auto, they cannot be faulted too much...It too will come, with time.

Default Apple CarPlay w/ GTS While Using USB Splitter?

Hey all,

This thread seems to be the closest subject to the situation I'm dealing with.

I currently have a 2019 Ultra Classic and I am trying to run a USB A splitter from the GTS headunit to both the fairing cubby and to the tourpak (via 16' USB cable). In this desired USB configuration, I am able to hard-connect my iPhone 13 Pro Max in to both the cubby and the tourpak and it will play audio. But here's the problem....I want to use Apple CarPlay.

So far, It seems that I can only utilize Apple CarPlay when the iPhone is directly connected to the GTS headhunt without the splitter inline.

I am wondering if anyone has had any luck to get either Android Auto or Apple CarPlay to work on their GTS head unit while ALSO using a USB splitter?

The original goal was to primarily use Apple CarPlay while my HUGEA$$ iPhone was hard-connected in the touringpak, while leaving the fairing cubby open for USB sticks and or pushing data updates for the head unit.

Please advise. Thanks in advance!!!
