So you could have given me a list of 500 things to name that could have or would have failed on my 07 Electra Glide before this particular piece did, but I guess isn’t that’s why it’s called Murphy’s Law or whatever??
Went to unlock the forks after breakfast for a ride with the wife whom of course hasn’t ridden with me in months and the ignition switch just turned and had zero resistance to it and then just popped off and of course wouldn’t go back on!
I’m literally trying everything I can think of and nothing is working and we’re in the parking lot now stranded with the forks locked. I’m looking and looking at it and can’t figure out why it won’t go back on like it’s done the hundreds of times I’ve had it off before and then realize that the shaft or alignment piece is down inside the ignition switch of the bike and not stuck up in the ignition switch cover thing!
It literally broke off from inside the ignition switch, metal failed and cracked it off. Never in my wildest thoughts has this crossed my mind as a possibility...
I was able to get it out with a combo of 2 spare fuses, chewing gum and a long flathead screw driver. The same flathead screw driver was able to slip down inside the ignition and unlock the forks as well as align the tumblers to allow me to start the bike and get it back home.
I’m assuming I need a new ignition cover thing, anyone know what’s it’s called exactly or a part #? Harley dealer said they only sold it as a whole unit and it was over $600 and took 2 weeks to get...there has to be a much cheaper option through EBay or somewhere else that’s not replacing the entire ignition assembly.

You need to slow down near the end of travel?.. I looked down at mine and there were a couple of small pins sitting at the edge of the keyhole. Now there are none. Some how, on and off wore them small enough to come up thru that space. After the first ones, Did not take much for the others to vibrate out.
What is item 7? And why does the key 15 show 0 cost?

ya...turn the ignition switch housing all the way to the left and then turn the forks all the way to the left and voila, forks are locked. Then put your key in and turn the key switch to lock and tell would be thieves good luck trying to steal the bike unless they can lift it straight up and onto a flatbed or trailer.

Part # 7 is the black plastic piece that slips over the key. Part # 15 is a key blank, hence the $0 cost, once the 4 digit key code is provided, the customer will receive quote on cost.
