Question Tour Pack interchangeability

Posting for a friend- will a tour pack for a 2001 touring bike work on a 2012 street glide using the detachable tour pack hardware for the street glide? Or does the actual tour pack need different hardware as well?

I am not an expert on this but a buddy of mine did this on his 2013 Road King and he used 2013 quick release mount and then.... had to make a plate that the older TP could bolt into and different holes for the 2013 mount...... since the hole spacings are different.... he had it painted to match his bike

Kinda what I figured, that some modification would be necessary...

You can buy a 1/2" aluminum plate online, probably 1/2" by 10" by 12", just guessing, he needs to mock up the TP and make sure the plate us thick enough to allow the bag lids to open, drill 8 clearance holes or tap 8 holes, and he should be fine

May want to consider the appearance of an older box on that newer bike also.

You're probably right, but before pulling the trigger on a 500$ used item that might be useless to him figured I would look for some guranteed experiences. Definitely sounds doable though.

Totally agree,,, if he has to have the TP painted then its almost not worth the hassle, unless he gets it free or really cheap, my buddies looks really good and most people would never know he has an older TP on his RK
