Which Elite IIIs fit the rear of the 2006 baggers? There are two part numbers in the Elite IIIs that are pretty close. Is there one that is not a whitewall?

 

I have Spoked wheels, will Dunlop E3"s fit on my 2000 Flht Std ? Don't know
if they are tube or tubless. Even sent away for a Dunlop book but it doesn't say.
The book says the tires are for Goldwings.
E-mailed dunlop and they emailed back only to say check with the bike manufacture.
Maybe should stick with the 402's decissions decissions.

I just replaced my orginal stock Dunlop 402 rear tire at 16k miles with another Dunlop 402. I was debabting switching the the Metzlers, but since I got 16k off a rear tire, I figured I was doing pretty good so why switch.

 

I have run nothing but Dunlop Elite 2's for years on a number of bikes and never--never--had a problem with wear or grip. I have 9K miles on the 402's that came on my road glide and both front and rear are still fine. Most of those miles were 2 up. I'm not saying that there couldn't be something better, but with the results I've had there's no reason to switch brands.

 

I glad I found this thread. I just purchased on 2007 Road Glide and I HATE the Dunlop tires that are on it. Seems like all the highways where I live are rain grooved. This tires make it feel like I am riding on snow.

The Harley dealership guys looked at me like I am nuts when I asked if anybody ever complained about these tires.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks the bike should handle better. But I still don't get it, how could one person feel like the stock Dunlops track great while I think that absolutely suck.

 

The way you ride, tire pressure, roads difference, and the list goes on.

 

I prefer Avons on my old Glide, but always run them a couple of pounds above book pressure, despite me not weighing much. During the nineties I tried Pirelli and Metzelers and changed both after a while. The Pirellis emphasised a weave the original Dunlops suffered from and the Metzelers were liking trying to ride on ice. Hopefully these brands have better tyres today!

When riding two up I ignore the manual and use higher pressures, closer to the maximum recommended on the tyre sidewalls. My starting point is half psi in the front per 20 pounds extra weight, one psi per 20 in the rear. I use 40psi front, 45psi rear. The bike handles far better!

It is interesting that US riders emphasise mileage. Here in the UK we tend to moreinterested in grip! My Avons give decent mileage and the best grip I have found so far. I don't think I will change brand just to try something else out.

 

I need a rear tire with less than 7k miles. The tire needing replacementis the Dunlop D402 PT MT90B16. This is the police tire that Iheard would have great longevity but not so for me. No two-up riding, no smoking etc.; just plain riding. I don't know how it comparesfor grip etc. because I do not have any other tires as a reference. Reading strings like this will help me decide what to replace it with.
