I am approaching time to buy new tires. Im going to go with WWW, this time, Im leaning towards the Avon Cobra. Good tire? Best tire? any thoughts? 2004 ultra classic
I don't believe you can go wrong with Avon tires...has a great reputation for griping in all road conditions...Which is what I would want as a first concern when buying a tire...
With this said there is some draw backs with the Avon tire and the main item of interest is the the lack of high mileage...If your planning on allot of touring then don't expect great life out of the rear tire...
Now as a note when you get caught in those unexpected circumstances that's where the Avons will shine for you knowing that the tires you are running will have the grip to keep you upright...
Naturally there will be a trade of if you go with a higher mileage tire but this is something you'll have to decide on and see just how they fit in your oval riding style...

Ran Cobras on my Heritage for a few years. Good grip, got about 7k out of a tyre. Only thing to remember, you need to run them with more air in, than Harley recommend, so use the Avon sight for tyre pressures
+1 on texasbowhunters comments,, been running the Avons for years Great tire, but you'll only get 10k out of the back tire and don't over inflate them. Fronts wear better I get 15k plus out of my Avon front. They handle the road very well.
Been using Avons on my Harleys since the '70s, Cobras being the most recent models. Pressures are important, as already mentioned, as for the rest you get superior ride comfort and performance all round IMHO. It's the only way to travel! If you have the later spec narrow drive belt you can get in a 150/80 rear, for a little extra load rating and style.
I don't know if Avons are really the best available, but I don't get anything else for my Harleys because I know their handling and ride is excellent. I don't care about tire wear, more important to me is the extra grip that can keep a scare from being an accident. But I'm an old guy that needs all the help he can get...
Hi GR, thought you'd show up with Avons mentioned.
Just swapped over to cobras on both the 98 ultra and 2012 ultra. World of diff 3000 miles so far on both bikes. Rain? The best. Tar snakes.? Don't even fell em. Wife even noticed the ride was better and didn't know I had changed tires. But white walls I could get for mine at the time
I switched to Avons last year. Got about 10k out of the rear and probably coulda ran it for another 2k but I was leaving on a trip and didn't want to do a tire change midway. Love the handling and grip of the Avons. True they do not wear as long as some of the others but I am buying the rear tire locally for $182.00 so i guess it is a wash.
