I have a 2007 street glide with the Arlen Ness big sucker and I want to run a catch can. All of them that I found have short breather bolts and would never work on it. Is there a catch can kit that had longer bolts to fit through the air filter plate? Is there different air filters that have thinner plates? Do you have a catch can and how thick is the plate on your filter? I like dk customs setup but the picture looks like the breather bolts are too short with the hose mount on it
Over the winter , I added an external breather kit to my Big Sucker , I had no luck finding longer bolts to direct the crank case air / oil to vent out using the backing plate . Everyone I've seen with air cleaners like ours have had to drill and tap a fitting that would re direct the crank case , The backing plate also has breather holes that will have to be plugged using high temp silicone or sealed with set screws using red loc tite .
I ended up drilling , tapping and adding the fittings , using silicone to fill the vent holes in the backing plate , job took me about 2 hrs , made my own catch can which took a bit longer , lots of options out there though .
Awesome. Thank you. I might go this route too. I wasnt sure if the bolts were long enough but didn’t look like it in the picture. I might even experiment a little trying to drill a longer bolt myself at the shop. You just confirmed what I was thinking about the bolt length.
Have you felt a difference since adding the can? How often do you clean it?

I do believe there is a member here that went this route , drilled completely through the center of a bolt and added a 90* fitting at the head , which saved him the trouble of filling in the existing breather holes in the backing plate .
I completed this job in the late fall , so I haven't had a chance to test it out . I have never had an issue with oil in the air cleaner though , I do keep my oil level down a bit , which does help . I imagine by re directing all the oil fumes and gunk , your engine should run smoother , I'll start monitoring my catch can once I start riding again , bike is not done yet at the moment , soon though . DK has some pretty good videos on the benefits of an external breather .
Keep us posted with your work , every job does help the next guy out , good luck with your project .
They worked on my HD Chiseled Extreme's back plate (#29400104)... but I really didn't like the looks of the hose attaching that way (on the end) and its so visible on the back plates with the mounting bolts visible. With the Chiseled breather I went with the drilling and tapping method like MyFavRK... its really easy. I have since switched to the Ventilator Elite Breather, which has the covered breather bolts, and used those #9976 bolts from above, and it was even simpler plumbing.
I too made my own catch can from this $12.00 canister.
I find that in the spring and fall I need to empty the can every couple of 200-300 mile rides. When its cool out I get quite a bit of condensation, once its warm out (70 plus) I can just dump it while changing the oil.
Thanks for the ideas guys. Im heading to the hardware store tomorrow and make up my own kit. I’ll probably buy the can by itself online. I was thinking about using the braided hose that goes under the sink or behind the toilet. Can get a couple feet if that for like $10. Ill cut it to length and buy the hose clamps with the chrome covers. Once Im at the store Ill find the fittings to tap into the housing and then plug one on the plate. Seems a lot easier. I also have access to pressing my own fitting on the end of the braided line for a clean look.

Braided line and fittings tend to get bulky... I've got 3 feet of it and the fittings just laying here lol I used 1/8" NPT x 1/4" barb fittings, painted everything black and used 3/16" or 1/4" fuel line... it just kinda all disappears unless you're looking for it. But everyone has their own style.
Didnt want to use black. Everything is chrome and I have just about every chrome part or cover there is. So what you will be able to see I dont want black
Cool.
FWIW, I'd advise against too small a catch can that vents out thru holes around the top... I have used one, a chrome one and paid more than 50 bucks for it. It was like 2" tall total, its volume was soooo small, and would "mist" out of those holes and needed to be emptied a lot. Really noticeably in spring and fall or weather in the 60's and below. It wasn't "horrible" or anything, just would see it on the rear header pipe, cause that catch can hung under the breather.
