Default Odometer Mileage Correction

Have a question about odometer mileage. I have a 2016 street glide. Removed original gauges and installed Dakota digital. If I decide to ever sell bike and install the oem gauges back will the ECM put the correct mileage in the oem gauges or will it be the mileage when I pulled out the original gauges. I have heard it would indicate actual mileage from ecm but wanted to verify. Any info is appreciated.

Default Odometer

Was just wondering if I install factory gauges back in I removed if the ECM will resister the correct mileage on my odometer meaning add the miles it was traveled when gauges were removed.

I had swapped out the gauges on my '09 Road King for the HD speedo/tach combo gauge. My bike had 30k on it at the time of the swap, rode another 20k with the upgraded gauges and then subsequently totaled the bike (deer). Bought bike back, rebuilt it and had to revert back to the stock gauge I still had on the shelf in the shop. Mileage showed 30k and had not (yet) updated to the correct 50k in the 300+ miles I've ridden it. Was told by a tech that the factory gauges are not "married" to the bike/ECM and only count what is ridden while attached to the bike. YMMV.

That is both good and bad to know. Good to get actual experience and bad that it is easy to screw people on mileage.

I believe that was true in 2009. I was told that the speedometer was married to the ECM starting with the 2012 model year.

that may have been the case in 09, but i can say that in 2012, the gauges are married to the vin through the ecm. the gauge will count down from 31 to 0, when it reaches 0, married to the bike. and if you try to put that gauge on another bike, you will get 'vin err' in the odo window.

not my 2010 FLHX. I just replaced the gauge due to condensation on the bezel and pcb and the gauge shows the mileage from the donor bike, not mine.
