Thinking about installing Avon Air Cushion grips. Does the clutch side grip end fit inside the switch housing or does it butt up to the housing and have to be glued?
There should be a shoulder or ring on the end of the grip that fits in the switch housing that keeps it secured. I installed Avon grips on my 2018 RG and did not use any adhesive on either side. The left side grip is tight and secure, and has never moved or twisted after more than a year of use.
One word of caution is to use care when removing the switch housings as there is a plastic tip on the switch for the clutch lever that allows the bike to start in gear when the clutch is pulled in. Same thing on the right for the brake light switch. If that plastic tip is broken, you have to replace the switch assembly. And, you should consider marking the handlebars where the top and bottom switch housings meet so you can put them back in their original position.
Some grips don't have the shoulder and must be glued on, but that Avon grip does have the shoulder. Some instructions say to use adhesive if needed. I did not find that necessary for the Avon grips I installed.

I have those grips...they go inside the housing. In-fact, I think all grips are installed like that. Otherwise, how would they be held in place besides messy glue?
I'm late to the party... I'll add though, they are comfortable grips, but the ends are plastic I don't like that about them. But they look good and have held up well.
I use Avon's exclusively on all my bikes and all my projects. You will have to move the switch housings in to fit the Avons. Every bike I have installed them on I had to relocate the switch housings in further on the bars to make them fit. Make sure you have the throttle side pushed all the way in so the gear inside the grip meshes with the electronic throttle gear and stays connected. Nothing like riding the bike down the road and having the grip move over and not be able to control the throttle And yes if your interested it will throw a code on the bike....LOL
You are right on the no glue thing. I had the ones you are considering and got rid of them. The Avon Memory foam, or the gel (hour glass shape) grips are much more comfy.
