Default my initial 08 feedback

I thought I would post on my initial impressions of my new scoot. I purchased an 08 Electra Glide Standard. I have to say I never thought I would be on a bagger, especially at age 27. I think its the smoothest bike i've had. The bike has a nice shake at idle, maybe a tad more than my 06 dyna. Once throttle is applied its smooth at butter. The acceleration is very predictable, shifting is smooth, and I know know what people are talking about the whine. It does whine in 5th gear, however once above about 3500rpm you can't hear it. Even when you do hear it, I can't say it bothers me in the least. It just sounds like a mechanical straight cut gear whine, call it character if you will. First gear also whines a bit louder but only on decelleration, and very low rpm say under 2000rpm. Neither whine i have heard would ever make me mention it, if it weren't for the feedback i have read on here. Enough about the whine, the bike is just smooth, I can't stress that enough. The new brembos(non abs)up front REALLY bite, definitely better than i expected. Carving corners is a joy, though i haven't paced it up a lot yet as the tires are just scrubbing in.As far as comfort goes the seat looks comfortable but after a few hours of on and off, fast and slow traveling my bum did get sore. Perhaps it just isn't broken in yet. The footboards could use a bit further out and i find i need some highway pegs to stretch out sometimes. They are on the shortlist as well as getting rid of the heel shifter. I like the dash setup and windshield, however i want one slightly lower with a recurve(also on the short list). As the temp outside rose, i feared i would get thigh burns, but that just wasn't the case. I find in 95 deg. weather at 85% humidity, its really not as bad as some have lead on.
For the passenger I feel the bike should atleast come with a passenger backrest, my G/F felt unsecure back there as she was used to one on my dyna. She said the seat was great for her, but the footboards were too far down. She is short, but I think the backrest bugged her more than anything. I expect delivery of that tomorrow. check that off the list! Also noted was the saddlebag guards hit her calf and wasn't too much of a fuss, but was worth mentioning.
Ofcouse maybe the big question is how about the power and sound! It is quiet, but it is noticeable. I think the tone of the exhaust is whats lacking so much. I swear its getting louder after just a few hundred miles but that could be in my head. The engine made no funny noise of any kind I could detect. It sounded smooth as butter just like the ride. Powerfull?, yeah I'd say so, felt very close to my dyna 88" with pipes, A/C and pc3 with dyno time. I would bet it will be on par with the same mods to accomodate the weight difference.
Overal I have to say this is a great machine, with mods galore available to start with my standard canvas. I'm very happy with my purchase, and I hope i didn't lead on about its faults. The faults i listed are meaningless in comparison to the joy of riding it. I haven't ridden an 07 but If the 08 is supposed to be even better then i'd say they did a great job.

thanks,

Jay

Congrats on the new ride, BadX a sponsor here and all round great guy can do your seat up to be as smooth as your ride, and another member Soos has the fix for your front floorboards 3/4"or 1" spacers so that your whole foot gets to rest on it!

You '08 owners have us '07 owners that took a year long azz whipping about 5th gear whine, which is normal, to thank for setting the stage for a wonderful Harley experience. The ones that were waiting for a silver lining to appear in the '08's can rest assured the motor and transmission of the '08s are EXACTLY the same as the '07's with the inclusion of the IDS in the '08's to quiet the masses of unwanted noise. There is absolutely nothing internal that has changed between the 2 years('07 and '08) so to those that are still pounding on the '07 bastard child of Harley..........give it a rest. The 96" 6-speed was and is a success in the EXACT same layout the day it left the blueprints to become the "new twin cam" of '07. My defunct '07(as viewed by the Harley critics in here) will hold it's value JUST like the previous AND next years Harleys..............no more and no less depreciation.

I thank you '08 guys for your replies and feedback and invite all of the new owners to speak of their experience as well.

Thanks again itsmyforte for your input.[sm=smiley20.gif]
