Default CVO 117 engine?

Greetings,

How good/bad is the 117 engine in the CVO? I ask since the new Low Rider ST will be coming with this engine, and wondering if it needs upgrades. I understand it already comes with the Torque cam?

How is the stock throttle response and overall power. Do you find yourself immediately wanting to add more power, retune, etc, or is the power pretty good stock?

No, I have not found myself wanting to build this motor like I did my Twin Cam... I have no issues with the 117.

All depends on the rider. Some are happy with stock power, some want more.

If you need more HP than a 117ci 45 degree v twin single pin motor, you are riding the wrong bike. Time you moved to a big Adv or upright sport tourer. 150HP and 9K rpm is just another flavor of fun. IMO.

The CVO 117 doesn't have the true 447 torque cam.
It's between the 114 and 447 cam.

Sorry, wasn't clear. The 117 is the first v-twin air cooled stock motor from HD that I look at, and don't see an immediate need to go out and hop it up. While big power would be nice, realistically, I just want to some good pull in a wide swath of the rev range, with good throttle response and smooth. I'd think the 117 stock gets me there. In looking at dyno charts on Fuel Moto, it looks like it has a nice spread of power, and good #'s overall. The 107 and 114 seem to have the typical HD stock motor characteristics where the power falls off quickly after 4k or so. The 117 looks to have a wider powerband window, which I like.

I'd think the 117, especially in the LRS ST, would be a lot of fun

Interesting. I haven't looked for the SG/RG ST, but for the LRS S/ST, there is no option for the Torque cam in the Stage II performance kits. Only Stage II Power cam, then Stage III and IV.

Also interesting. Previous to the ST's coming out, was looking at a SG standard 107 and a Stage II. I think I'd rather go this route over the SGS, but just maybe could be convinced on the ST due to the engine and styling. From the dyno charts I've seen at, the 107 Stage II and 117 are similar in power and powerband. But realistically, the cost of the ST is just too much for me. If the riding position on the LRS ST doesn't work me, I think I'm going with the original plan of the SG 107 w/ Stage II.

I have the 117" in my '21 CVO Street Glide and I can tell you it has gobs of power everywhere. Compared to my '17 CVO Ultra with the 114" (Rinehart slim-line duals, A/C, tuner) the 117" will walk circles around the 114". (Yes, I took the tour pack off the Ultra before making this comparison). It will be interesting to see how the 117" in the CVO Tri-Glide feels compared to my SG.
