I have an '07 Street Glide with just under 12k miles. The brackets that go from middle of the fairing out to the bottom of the speakers have now cracked twice (once on each side). The first time it happened I took it to the daler and they found that 3 of 4 brackets that support the fairing were either totally cracked or starting to crack. Anyone else having this problem and if so, any solutions. I am not real crazy about wasting 3+ hours going to the dealer and back to fix a problem that I can do inless than 30 minutes. They won't, however, give me the part to perform "warranty work" on my own scoot.
Noticed that the mirrors were vibrating more than normal on that side and took the outer fairing off to see if I needed to tighten up the fairing mounted mirrors.
Man, you mean they { H/D} haven't found a fix for this yet ? [sm=smiley7.gif] I had the very same problem on my '02 FLHTC , but only on the right bracket, for some reason ? Changed it out a couple times, as it didn't just crack , it broke off right at the speaker mount . Haven't had the problem on my '07 yet, so I have no idea if they redesigned the brackets or { at usual }just let the owners deal with it and officially claim there is NO problem[:@] !!!!!!!
My dealer has the brackets in stock. I said "Hmmm, this is a common problem?" Parts mgr replied "Not really. Maybe once in a while. We keep them in stock mainly for wrecks and drops. They get broken a lot then." Yea....OK. If the did redesign the bracket it didn't fix the problem.
The cracking fairing support/ speaker brackets should not be news to any dealer. My '06 Street Glide had two cracked brackets and were replaced under warranty. It only took me 20 minutes to do both sides. I heard a loose rattling sound inside my fairing andconfermed the problem when I installed my new Hog Tunes speakers. Must happen often as the dealer had both sides in stock.
The brackets that run vertically like to break also....and often too often!! Mine have broke at the top where it screws into the inner fairing. As well....the horrizontal brackets like to break just as well!!
There is definately a problem.......it has been happening since 1996 when they redesigned the dash on the Electra Glides. I like the look of the newer models....but at least the pre-1996 brackets never broke.
