This post is probably better suited to the Softail forum, but I thought I'd start here.....
I currently have a 2019 Street Glide Special, which I do really like. I bought it new with the intention of going on some longer rides/trips with a buddy that has an Ultra Limited. Then Covid hit and I haven't rode it more than a few hundred miles in a day. Basically it has become a weekend ride/back and forth to work motorcycle. I'm only putting a few thousand miles (at best) on it per year and with work, kids, etc., I don't see me having a ton of time to bugger off for a few days, or week to ride.
The 2022 Street Bob has caught my eye! Possibly the Low Rider S. I haven't test rode either yet.
I'd love to know anyone that has gone from a touring bike to a softail, and what your experience was. Do you regret it?
I'm pretty sure I can live without the big fairing and radio and if I did want to ride a longer distance, I can add a windscreen, bags, etc., etc. to make it more comfortable for a longer ride. I know everyone's experience will be subjective, I'm just wondering if I'm missing something in my thought process that may be a gotcha down the road. I'd appreciate any input or thoughts....
I have both, a 14 Ultra Limited 103 and a 20 Heritage Classic 114. My touring days are few and far between, plus age is catching up to me. So, thats why I bought the Softail, thinking I wanted something lighter and more nimble. It was a good decision for me.
Go and test ride the SB and the LRS. If theyre anything like my Softail, I think youll like how they ride and handle.
Road King. I have a Heritage as well but the FLHR is the best of both worlds IMO. When I bought the Dyna Switchback my BIL tried to get me to ride a Road King. I shoulda listened then!
At one point I had a RKS and the LRS in my sig pic.
Long story short I sold the RoadKing and kept the LRS. For around town I don’t miss the weight at all. Gotta be honest, even with touring, at sometimes it is “around town riding”
I think the SGS does everything you'd want it to do and then, no need for anything if you do decide to tour as well. It's all there for you. I think you may be suffering from "new bike" syndrome...
I should know, I suffer from it tremendously.
Heritage - Best multipurpose bike to ever roll of an assembly line. Put bags and windscreen on her and she will tour the country. Remove them and she is the belle of the ball.

I had a 2018 Street Bob, everything was good but that small gas tank. Don't think you will be happy to move 6-gallon gas tank to 3.5-gallon tank. Heritage might be your best choice.
