I have a 2002 fat boy which is great but i wanted something with a bit more comfort etc so i bought a 2007 black cherry pearl streetglide in january, i have only done 170miles on it just can't get comfortable on it and keep on riding the fat boy. The riding position just doesn't feel right yet the controls etc and positioning of feet etc should not be that much different. I had a sundowner seat fitted from new without trying the original seat and maybe that has changed the feel to much. I am at a loss because i love the look of the bike and the practicalities of it. Has anyone got any ideas... I just can't put my finger on it.
I have an 07 SG too and stayed with the stock seat. I believe the Sundowner has more of a bucket shape and moves you forward on the bike. That is the last thing I wanted. I added an extended shifter and EZ brake to mine and I can ride it without the forward controls (Accutronix) I had on my 00 Standard. Too bad you did not try the stock seat first, althought it does not give you as much low back support it gives you increased leg room. I opted to put a backrest on mine so I got the back support that I had with the standards seat which is probably close to what the Sundowner is.
The obvious problem in comfort stems from your choice of color. Black SGs are much more comfy! ;-)
Anyhow, I too have owned a Fat Boy, and now a SG. The seating position is quite a bit different (in vs on). I have a Corbin Dual Tourer seat that I find gives me a better, more secure feeling of being in the bike. Not as deep as in the Fat Boy, but comfortable.
thanks for the feedback, I will put the stock seat back on and see how it goes, your right i just need to ride it.
Just for info I put some Avon Venoms on the Fat Boy which were great, big improvement on the stock HD fitment, What are the best tyres for the streetglide should i ever wear the originals out ???
Ummm, have to agree with what SG people are telling you. I came from a Softail Custom although it was several years ago. Best stock seat in the wholeline in my opinion.
Anyway, when I first did a few miles on the SG I wasn't that thrilled with it or the seat. However I have to tell you, you just need some more miles. Everytime I ride it I like it better. The other day I was riding, listening to tunes, leaning into a few mild curves and I just had the big grin on my face. Give it time and miles, SGs grow on you and you have to give them a chance to fit.......like a new pair of shoes, once broke in you don' wear anything else. Happy with my decision now.
