Default Diagnostics

I am waiting on the delivery of my 2021 Road King. I am wondering if I am able to get the necessary tools to covert a lap top into a scanner to read the functions of this M/C or maybe buy a type of scanner. I want more than a code reader, something that will give me actual readings.

Dyno Jet Power Vision is a full service diagnostic tool that will not only display codes and import tunes, but can act as a gauge to display any number of functions, assuming you have the appropriate sensor in the bike. If you go that route, I'd highly suggest buying it from Fuel Moto and getting the free support that comes with being a customer of theirs.

Not sure about converting a laptop. You could, but it's not as user friendly while on the road during an initial testing phase.

What are you looking to see? There are tools you can get that can do anything HD can do. Not cheap but every time you use it the cost goes down. They most often connect to your PC. If you want to spend the cash you can even do live tuning if you have the skills.

I would like to see stuff like the values of the O2 sensors, rev limiter settings, throttle position sensor any thing the computer reads to run the bike. So i can see that every thing is running in spec and if it acts up I would be able to trouble shoot it and make the repair.

There are several tools/tuners that are dependent on a computer for reading and using the tool...

I have a Daytona Twin Scan IV that is a tool, connected and operated from a computer. You could also add their "tuning" module and it will allow you to read and change the tune in the ECM, all from the connected computer...

However, the Twin Scan IV was purchased mainly for brake flushes (to operate the ABS module) and some other BCM changing features like adding security key FOBs to a bike...

My main diagnostic tool is a DynoJet PowerVison Tuner from FuelMoto... It is a full function tuner. It can function well, as a stand alone tool connected to your ECM. It can also be connected to your computer to read and compare the various tables in a tune... and eventually change them. Then you just flash the changed tune back into the ECM.

DynoJet has come out with some new tuners that are more budget friendly, one even operates form your smart phone, but they are not as full featured as the PowerVision Tuner...

What to get will depend on what you need it to do, and what your budget is....

Good luck with your decision...

You typed this as I was typing the above post...

IMHO... The PowerVision Tuner is the way to go...

I'd call FuelMoto and get their recommendation on which model will work best for you...

what do you want? You can read codes through the dash, the same wasy you have been able to for a long time. I tried it on 2020 too.

I just noticed that I made a mistake on the year of my bike. It is a 2021 not a 2012.
