I hear what your saying but 2/3 of the fun is the hunt.
I spent about 8 months looking before I bought the one I'm riding now and remember how it felt after I bought it. It was like something was missing from my life. That something was, the hunt.
I'm waiting to hear back whether it has the cam tensionor upgrade or not. That will be a big factor for me along with whether or not it's FI.
I never followed the baggers and to be honest, I don't know if a carburetor was even available on the Ultra in 06.

carb was an option on all big twins until 2007 when everything went fuel injection across the board for HD.

FWIW, I bought a 2004 Electra glide classic a few months ago for $3000. My wife was debating the switch from her Softail to a touring bike, and we hunted Facebook marketplace and OfferUp for a few weeks until we found a cheap bagger that she could ride. It Ran fine and needed nothing except brake pads. She rode it for about 4 weeks and decided to sell and get a 2014 ultra. We ended up getting $4900 for the bike when we sold it. This is in south Florida where we have year round riding, and the price of bikes is generally higher in the winter that throughout the northern states.

That being said, I’d say 3500-4k is a great deal for the bike you posted (even without the cam chain tensioner upgrade, but use that to negotiate the price if it isn’t done). $5k is fair. Anything higher, and I’d be looking for a 2008+ touring bike with the updated frame.

I can't argue with anything that @jac737 said. The problem is getting today's sellers to agree.
I've seen what I thought were some good deals but also wondered if they knew something the next owner was soon to find out. Cam tensioners are a great negotiating point. Before purchasing my current '05, I was looking at '08 and up for those very same reasons as jac mentioned. When I found my bike, it already had cams and hydraulic tensioners installed. Plus, if you're swooning over a Springer, you can assume that an updated suspension may not be the most important selling point!

$4000 for average condition is a great price. $6,000 for a showroom garage queen IMO is what I'd be willing to pay.
As said the '06 tranny issue was only on the (guinea pig) Dyna 6 speed that first year. Nothing wrong with '06 Touring.

I misread earlier. $5K sounds like a fair price.

The '06 is a good year. As long as the cam chain tensioners have been addressed or are at least in good shape to be updated immediately, it was a pretty solid year. I recommend to my friends to just skip '07 & '08. There's just too much cross-over going on. Someone noted that '06 was the first year for the 6 speed, but only on the dyna. Touring and Softail waited until '07. I think I'd be a little more lenient for a clean '06 Ultra. Maybe $7ish but largely in line with what jac and others note, other than going '09&up instead of '08.

Yep. I wondered if he simply fat fingered the year.

Thanks for the clarification. Wasn't sure about the particulars as I'm very hands off with twinkies, I knew there was needle bearing problems with a run of them but a bit foggy on what and when.

That said, that's a clean good looking machine if the price is right.
