flht flatbed
I'm looking for some tips on lashing things onto my 07 flht. I have the usual bungee net and it worked ok when I strapped a five gallon plastic race jug onto the back seat. but it became obvious that hd didn't design in any fliptabs like they have on sportbikes specifically for bungees. There are "things" you can get a bunge or strap on (I used the bag mounts)but there has to be a better way. Today I had to go **** some tires for my dirtbike. I would have prefered to take the bike but a dry run at strapping on an old 21" front in the driveway proved problematic, so I took the truck. The tirefit on the back of the bike but I did not like the idea that it would rub on the top of the saddle bag. It just occured to me that saddlebag top covers would help with that problem ...Tip #1!!!
I know they make some rear racks but they look big enough to hold a toaster and not much more. Although something that clicks on andoff an on might work. and yes milk crates can be handy but I'm not in a hurry to strap one on the back of my bike!! I've also seen the saddlebag lid rails but I don't really like the way they look, very functional tho!!
What about lashing things down with out bungees. Itried a regular tie down strap and at 6 ft long, that seemed like over kill. The hooks were too big and lots of loose strap left over when things are cinched down. Can only imagine what would happen if some of that strapping found it's way into the rear wheel area when rolling down the highwayDo they make mini "motorcycle" sized tie downs?? Yes regular twine/rope would work very well but I was never a boyscout or in the navy so my knot making technique is non-existant. I'd be worrying about loosing the load. What are my options for "lashing" material.?
So I guess I'm looking for tips on lashing odd ball stuff to my 07 flht in a way that would not do any damage to the bike and require me to permanately alter the appearance of the bike and still allow me to confidently motor down the highway at 75 mph!!!

I saw chrome HD bungee nuts for sale at my local stealer. Don't know where they may go on the bike.. However they will give you something tofasten a bungee hook to..
Or maybe JB weld??
Or maybe JB weld??
I saw a couple of bikes on the highway the other day....They had cargo carriers similar to what slides into a trailer hitch on a pickup truck....but made for a motorcycle with a trailer hitch.
your kidding, Right?? there is all kinds of places to hook bungee cords to on a Flht..if I can carry a tent, ground cloth, weeks worth of clothing, sleeping bag, ground pad, case of water, case of beer and assorted other objects for 350 miles to go to a rally, I'm sure you can carry a tire? but then, maybe not..
