A couple monthe ago I enlisted TR at TMan performance to build me a Jim's 120. motor. I had originally thought I would install it in my 02 flht, but I couldnt bring myself to tear it back apart since I just recently finished a cosmetic rebuild.
So, this morning on GovDeal.com, there was a 01flhtpi that has been relisted numerous times. I think it was because of the high miles, which was 52,000, the reason it never sold. So at 7:45 this morning I bought it for 7500.00. I now have a bike in which to install my new engine. And of course, you know I cant leave it looking stock, and ugly, so I imagine I will spend another 10,000.00 making it look respectable, like I did my other one.
I will try to get some pics of the redo if anyone is interested.
Any good input on things to do to this bike? paint, airbrushing, accessories?wheels? Maybe the FBI 280 rear tire kit?
52,000 is not a lot of miles, I would suspect something else was wrong with the bike?? check the frame out first, look for chipped paint at welds and cracked paint up by the goose neck..I hope you made out, but it don't sound right to me..by the way all black bikes are a thing of beauty, with just a smattering of chrome.
Sounds like fun to me. Wish I had the resources to do a build on a second bike. I would definitely go with a big ol' fat rear tire. I love the look, but it isn't for everyone. Have fun. And post up some build pics. I would love to see the progression.
