Default Flush Mount Front Axle

What are the pros and cons of a flush mount axle? I've been using HD chrome hub caps on the front of my FLTRU and they are getting pitted badly and look like crap. Thanks.

I've never seen one, how do you prevent it from spinning when you torque the nut? Is the nut flush also?

If those axle covers are getting pitted, then probably your forks are too. No downside really on the flush mount axles, just depends on the look you want. Another option is a cleaner look with the Arlen Ness hot legs in the second pic. I have those H-D chrome "hub caps" and no pitting in the 10 years I've had them.

Flush mount axel requires press fitting a “captive nut” into one side of the forks and then torquing the axel to the required spec. Another cap is pressed over the torquing nut and clamped from the bottom. Just beware that when and if the time comes getting that captive nut out is a pain. I’ve had both set ups and eventually settled for the Hot Legs.

The hidden axle set I have does NOT require press fitting anything. Couldn't be easier to install, OR remove.

That set up I had was a while ago. Designs have changed it sounds like. Either way a hidden axel is a slick set up.

I'll get pics. My legs are HD chrome with 70K miles. No issues with them. The chrome HD caps look like hell.
