2000 flhtpi backfire.
I am new to this forum and could use some help.
I just purchased a 2000 police bike with 62000 miles on it. It has a random backfire that is slowly getting worse. The only time the backfire is consistent is at 1300rpm. It has the magneti marelli injection system. Where should I start looking to fix this ?
Thanks in advance.
THIS ^ . Exhaust leaks from broken or loose manifolds are very common and most often manifest themselves in lower rpm popping. Dont forget to check your Y pipe or any other kind of crossover.
this will work on the EVO and Twin Cam

Nope on the postion sensor, since 2000 twin cam throttle body position sensor is not adjustable like the earlier MM slotted evo sensors.
My guess, would be either intake or exhaust leak (or motor just running too lean), and since was until later that they did way with the crank sensor on the twin cam motors, may be a problem with crank sensor starting to go out as well. I TB throttle posistion does have a flat spot, then way to pull it apart to clean and solve that problem.
As for other items that come to mind, when was the last time the fuel filter in the tank was replace, other parts checked for a leaks in tank as well, since these could be causing the motor to run lean as well.
