Looking at putting a set of progressive 412 shocks on my 2017 ultra low, considering the 11 inch shock, has anyone gone from the stock 12 inch to an 11 inch., will I compromise the ride?
My 1st SG was an '07 and came with 12" shocks and it had a terrible ride. I replaced them with Progressive 13" shocks, and it improved the ride tremendously. I can't image how bad 11" shocks would be.
You might be able to do better than the 11" 412s. To me total shock travel is more important than shock length for a descent ride, but you can have both in a good pair of shocks. I lowered my King front and rear to be similar to your Ultra Low. I changed out my rears to 12" Ohlins that have the same 3" of travel as many 13" shocks, but will sit at around 11" when sitting on the bike. You're losing more than an inch with the 412s at the start.
Take a look at the Ohlins HD 771 or HD 775. Pricing is descent for these. If you want adjustable rebound the Ohlins HD 774, but are pricey. The Progressive 412s are cheaper compared to the Ohlins, but you get what you pay for in the ride.
I would spend a little more money and step up to the Progressive 444 shocks. They have worked well for me. I can't speak to the length that you are wanting to try. I stayed with the stock 13 inch on mine.

Suspension is a compromise in physics. Do you want it to ride like a Cadillac, or handle like a Corvette? The more money you spend, the closer the dynamics of comfort versus handling come towards the middle of necessary compromise. This is my opinion, I am not a suspension engineer. Why not ask the experts and not just us here in this Forum?
Spending that amount of money is worth your questions. You may know already that Progressive has a lot of tech info on their website. Also, have you talked with the Tech Service guys at Progressive? Their time and knowledge is free for us. Contact link below if you need it.
