Default customized or personalized

so i was having this discussion with this dude, he was saying how he was customizing his bike. all he was doing was adding chrome bits, maybe changing the seat and shocks. i said that he was not customizing, that he was 'personalizing'. in my mind theres a difference, customizing involves some kind of work, whereas personalizing involves taking something someone else made and bolting it on.....

so what say the gurus?

(First off, I'm no guru,lol)

I agree with your analogy....

customized to me means, paint, motor work, modifying a stock bike to be not stock

one off pieces, fabrication....etc etc

Customize - to modify or build according to individual or personal specifications or preference
Personalize - to make personal, as by applying a general statement to oneself

He personalized his bike by customizing it. How he customized his bike was his personal statment.

A true Custom, cant be built with store bought parts, well thats what I use to think. Today "custom bikes" are everywhere built with parts bought from different vendors, so his is or should be considered a custom if the others are. IMO anyway. If you want to nit pick, I guess he added custom touches to his stock bike, but really who cares long as he's happy.

Ditto... I like my "personalized" Road King, but anyone could duplicate it exactly with off-the-shelf parts from the local dealer.

Then mine is customized.. I have had some painting done to it and it is all hand done. So that makes it a customized bike..

no arguing.... discussing.... big difference. nobody was getting pissed, and no tempers flaring..... and most importantly, no ride time lost.
