Default ids question

for those of yout hat have had the ids installed have any of you had a friend beside you to see if they can hear the noise, reason im asking is when i ride next to my friend it sounds like somethings getting ready to blow, i was wondering if the ids only controls the noise for the driver or does it control the noise entirely?

I thought the IDS is only to shut off the rear cylinder when it reaches a certain temp. I have an 08 Ultra and it DOES make a lot of different noises. I will have to put pipes on it so I won't hear it any longer.

IDS is a rear wheel added damper, most say it will help the clatter sound some 07s have, it will not have any effect on the 1st and 5th gear whine.

I put 32 ounces of Mobil1 75w90 in my trans when I did the 1,000 mile fluid change. No more noise, shifts like butter.

oops, I thought we were talking about the idle control gizmo. Duh! LOL, My 08 Ultra has it and its smooth as glass however the engine or the tranny makes a whirring noise. It sort of sounds like a turbo or something spinning. The IDS is very smooth so if you don't have it, get it.

The whirring noise is the automatic primary chain adjuster shoe. This shoe is much larger than the old self adjuster type, and it holds the chain quite a bit tighter.

Default RE: ids question

IDS is a rubber isolation/cush drive damper system for the final drive.
It has nothing to do with the trans gear noise caused by gear cut. That is a normal condition within the trans. A good 90w140 synthetic lube will almost eliminate the gear drive noise.
IDS works to eliminate input pulses from the engine by allowing movement between therear sprocket and the rear wheel. This is why its called a cush drive system on the Jap bikes. Works good to smooth out the sharp pulse found at lower RPM`s under load.
