Default Vibration

Test drove an 05 Electra Glide today. The guy that was selling it did not know if it was a standard or a classic. The tour pack threw me off, but I guess it coud have been added later. I thought the classic and ultra have a badge on them.

My main question is, during a test drive there was a significant vibration that actually made my vision blurry. I have had sporsters and a wide glide and never experienced this before. At first I thought it was the windshield, but decided that was not the problem. I was on a smooth road an going about 55 at the time. The bike ahs been lowered and a drop seat installed. Owner said he did not know what I was talking about. I know I was not imagining this and had not had any Buds ( at that time).

Could be a motor mount causing the vibration. When mine went bad it felt like the whole fairing was going to shake off. It would vibrate wicked bad.

EGS will have silver motor and polished aluminum covers and a DD in the serial #. The EGC will have a blacked out motor with chrome covers.

Yep, easiest way for me to tell is by looking at the motor. If it is silver, it is a standard. Also, the standard does not come with a radio, but that can be added later.

And I would echo what was said above. If it didn't feel right to you, I would not buy it. There could be damage that was repaired or any number of other issues. If the guy selling it didn't even know what the bike was, it is less likely he would know of any issues it may have, IMO. There are just so many late model HD touring bikes out there, there should be no reason to settle on one that you are not comfortable with. Again, was the seller the only owner? Did he have a title in hand? If you like everything about the bike, except the vibration, you can search to find out any information on the bike that you would need to know. BTW, I have read that fairing brackets have a tendency to break, and that could cause the vibration. Actually, there could be a lot of reasons, and without knowing all the facts about the bike, I would move on. IMO.

Were you wearing a helmet?... if the windshield isnt the right height for you it will rattle your brain... if you were not wearing a helmet and the wind is catching you in the forehead it can give you the same sensation.

If your not sure about it walk... theres plenty in the cycle trader!

I wouldnt buy it for the simple fact that the guydosent know if its a ultra or a classic???...

Silver motor on the standard vs the black motor on the classic....a quick way... Or, look at the title is a good way.... or look at the serial number is the best way.... IMO you want to make sure the serials numbers match and need to be looking at them anyway.....

My RK has NO vibration in the mirrors at idle, riding, etc..... my EVO motors on the FLHTC and Sporty both vibrated that the mirrors could not be used till you found the right harmonics ane rpm..... So, I thought it was the EVO.... but it could the the fairing bikes??

Later
