Default Hinge lubrication

What do you use to lubricate your saddlebag hinge?

The Service manual says to lubricate the saddlebag hinges but does not say what to use.

Also, I have a Road King Classic. I believe the saddlebag hinges are different than those on other bikes. Does anyone know if they even need to be lubricated on the Road King Classic?

I've never lubed my saddle bag hinges and don't see a reason to.

I lightly coated them with synthetic bicycle chain lubricant. They started hanging up like they were partially locked so I oiled them and now its like they're new again.

Some WD40 will do the job just fine. There's no need for fancy lubes here.

Yea I just asked the old salty dog at the partscounter at Harley if they had anything or if it was necessary. He said "Uhhh I guess any kind of lubricant would work." I took that to mean he doesnt lube his either.

I have some aerosol remington light gun oil at home. I will just give it a tiny shot of that.

Any type of oil will attrack dirt in the future. I would recommend one of the many dry graphite based lubricants. Just my opinion though.

+1 for graphite lube. I use dry powder graphite lube on the hinges and locks. Wipe off any excess - it's graphite!

Now that is the advice I needed. Thanks guys!

The service manual calls for graphite somewhere else too. I dont remember where. But At least I have some when that time comes.

Break Free. Good for cleaning and lubing guns, tank main guns (they use it by the gallon), etc. Also, Dry Slide is fantastic stuff for things like this.
