Default cost of changing out cams?

I called my Indy this week about changing to gear drive cams because it is time to replace the cam chain shoes, he gave me a price of around $1100.00 parts, labor and redynoing. is this around the normal cost? He tends to give you a max price then when it cost less your happy.

seems fair for cams, gears, pushrods, dyno tune. Unless you can do it yourself and save labor.

I am considering the same options. Is it a difficult job to replace cams, gears & pushrods. I am by no means a mechanic but have made some modifications on my own. As a novice is this something that I can do or should I have a more knowledgable "mechanic" work with me. (Would still have to cover his cost, but way lower than the stealers labor price)?

Also what cams, gears would you suggest?

Thanks,

CYB

Probably could do the job myself and have done all the wrenching on my scoot myself up to this point but having the time is the issue. as far as cams I am going to sit down with my mechanic on Saturday and plot a course but it will probably be Andrews 26g's or 31g's

My Indy quoted me $1600.00 to change out my cams for gear drives and 26G's. I know that this is high because I stopped going to him after he charged me MSRP + $80.00 install laborfor a new rear tire.

$1100.00 seems about right. But if you do it your self it's so much more rewarding... + It's fun......

Well, fairly easy job - but to do it right you'll need some special tools. $1100 is a real good price to put in gear drive cams.
