Default Cams!

Trying to decide on S&S 510 vs Woods TW-6. Called S&S tech line and asked them if their gear drive could be used with my 2010 FLSTC. The tech rep said the spacing on the pinion shaft had to be measured because H-D went to a 12mil from a 3mil on some models. The S&S cam kit will not work with the 12 mil spacing, only with the 3 mil. (or something like that...)

Apparently I would have to keep the chain drive. So what is opinion of the forum members, S&S 510 vs Wood TW-6?

I looked in to both of these cams when deciding. I went with the Wood TW-6 cams and will never look back. My bike goes like hell. Call Bob Wood and tlk to him about the cams. He will give you the run down and he isn't really interested in getting your business if his cams aren't for you. He will tell you strainght up what is best for you and your bike. I started a pretty good thread called "Is cams only worth it?" A lot of good posts with good info. If you are interested, search the title.

You don't need a gear drive, a friend has the S&S 510 in his, I have 204's and we both run out about the same. The woods 6 is a good cam too, with cams it's just pick one and go with it, you will love the change

we`ve used both, the S&S cam will be little less aggresive and possibly quieter, but the woods will make more power

I have the S&S 510G's and really like them. I just read an article by Donnie Peterson in American Iron magazine and he was saying that the Woods cams were ground to make most of their power in the mid RPM range instead of the higher range so you would have more low end torque. I wish I would have known that when I installed mine.

You don't need gear drive in a '10 motor. Stick with the chain set up as it's much better than it's predecessor... As for cams, you can research it til you can't think clear anymore.. Find one that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy and is designed to work with what you plan to do with the motor and roll with it.. main thing is finding a cam set up to work with the heads you have and you that you can grow into if at all possible..

My preference is the Woods. I am thinking of changing my cams in the near future, and the Woods seemed the best choice after hearing the guys at the local indy shop talk, and what my friends say about the Woods. The SE Cams don't seem to have the Bigger bomp bomp sound at idle nor make as much power.

Thanks for the input guys. I'd rather have a better midrange torque increase than higher range power. Guess that means the Woods cam is the way to go.

What is the price you really pay for the Woods cams?
There are shops like M&M where you can get a 20% discount on SE.....

I'm asking because I live in Germany and am not very familiar with the american market esp on discounts .

Thx
