Ok the secrets out and you batwingers are converting left and right ok ok quit hitting me does anytone really know why HD quit making the Tour Glide ?? it seems that the majority of us on roadies are going right back to the same look and function with tour pacs and such. and how many signature would it take to get HD to bring it back ..... just a passing thought

Marketing probably thought there was too much duplication and the RG type fairing was less popular and sold in smaller (much) numbers.

To make the most of the design, they kind of "trimmed the fat" , leaving the essential and popular stuff but leaving it up to the individual owner to build (or not) build it up.

I do fine with a removable rack and roll bag. Together with my hard bags, I have yet to find a situation that I couldn't bring what I NEEDED. Yep , no tv or porta potty like some of my touring brothers!

EZ

Road Glides have picked up a few new converts but the truth as told to me by my friend a GM at one of the biggest dealers on the east coast is the road glide is still by far the slowest seller in the touring group and always has been.

Your comment caught my attention gunrunner. On a recent trip from my hometown in Michigan down to SE Kentucky, the only road glide I saw was mine. Yet, I see them almost daily here at home. I wonder if they are more popular in certian areas than others. I would agree, overall they are prolly the lowest selling touring bike, but it seems to me they are picking up in popularity, at least in my area anyway...

Sounds right to me....Around here (Northern Illinois & Southern Wisconsin) a huge percentage of the HD's on the road are Touring Bikes and of those I'll bet the breakdown runs something close to:

70 percent= ElectraGlides
20 percent= StreetGlides
10 percent= RoadGlides

Why ?

*Most HD riders aretraditionalists..... the EG looks a lot more oldschool than the sharknoseRG
*The EG offers a bit more protection from the wind, the weather's only really hot around here for 8-10 weeks maximum
*The EG Ultra is all set for ultimate 2 up touring straight out of the box (even though they mostly see service as bar hoppers around here)

YOU DO NOT WANT A ROAD GLIDE, YOU DO NOT WANT A ROAD GLIDE!

I agree, they aren't the best sellers. Our local dealer had one sit on the floor a year and a half. Not sure if they sold it or traded to another dealer, but it finally disappeared. Mine was the first 07 into my dealer (Special order thru AAFES) and they had another come in a while after mine. I only ever see one at a time on the floor, whereas the Ultras/Electras are always 5-10 deep. Still a great secret, just some folks let it slip every now and then.

i saw a ton of them on the way to sturgis this year and way more in sturgis, the local dealers here in my area cant keep on the floor, outselling the sreetglide !!!!!!!!!!!! i guess its just different regions and some people watch the fairng instead of the road, i get asked the same thing everyday and how i cane ride with the fairing not moving, i tell them i watch the road and not the front of the bike, and its my first fairing style bike, had a FLHS and a RK for the past seven years
