A Dodge diesel truck forum lists:
PO577 Cruise control circuit high input
A Toyota Camry forum lists:
PO577 Cruise Control Related Malfunction
I don't know whether those units are Delphis or whether it's an industry standard for codes, but the similarity to your problem is certainly interesting. The truck forum contains a post which says:
"P0577 Error - I'm not certain myself on this one. But Once again it sound like a wiring problem. Like the signal line is shorted to +5V line or something. I would gamble a guess at the clock spring. There was a lot of problems in the past about this but I would check everything out first..."
Maybe you inadvertently altered a wire (pinch, nick, cut, pull from connector, etc.) while doing your work?
Thanks "ThatGuy" that info helped a bunch. But the code it gave me was not on the list "PO577" any thoghts?
My '08 Softail elec diagnostic manual does not list PO577. Thus, I boldly guess the code refers to something the Softail does not have; eg, cruise control.
Also, to stretch my credibilty further, since thatguy's '07 touring manual does not list PO577, things are pointing to the fly-by-wire which is specific to the '08.
call your dealer, get the service department and ask them what the code is. They should tell you what it means. the dealer in spokane,wa will tell you, Shumate Harley Davidson (509) 928-6811
On another note, go in and clear the code, what your describing seems to be a historic code. If it was a current code the engine light would stay on all the time. To clear the code go into the diagnostic where you found it bring up the code on your spedo. and hold the spedo button untill it reads clear. Unless you see it come back I wouldn't worry about it if I were you.
Sorry, not till I get the '08 manuals... those codes are from an '07Touring - maybe someone else can jump in here and help you on that one.
is this a great country (site) or what. many too boo koo thanks thatguy.
been having some trouble lights myself as described above on off and then back on for a while, except today it stayed on for 10 miles on the way home before it finally cut off. just followed your directions and came up with P1358. it's an 07 so no help from your list, but did give me two part numbers Pn 32915-07 and 67349-04A. haven't looked them up yet and not worried until I run it tomorrow to see if I generate anymore codes.
in the 08 manual Po577 is cruise control input error.
the ecm receives a signal from the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) for most engine functions including the cruise control. It is located on top of the transmission. I see that you put dual exhaust on.....I would check to see if you have damaged or burnt the wire from the VSS.
Additionally you might not have extracted all the trouble codes that are actually in the system.
I tried to set my cruise control.....The light turned green for about a second and then turned Orange Showing that it was not set. I continued to try to set it. It would not. About 2-3 miles up the road The Engine light came on!! ............ Started it back up drove about 5 miles still no Cruise control and then the light came back on. ANY IDEAS??
Same thing last week on my '08 UC. Dealer replaced two switches in the cruise control housing on the right handlebar cluster (77101-98 & 71825-96A) under warranty. Makes me think HD either picked cheap switches to begin with, or there was a bad production run on 'em.
I have always heard to avoid trouble with ecm to turn ignition on and wait untill check engine light goes off, then start.Anyone else know about this? Four years and never a problem.

I always wait for the light to go out before I start it up. one of those things I read about in my owner's maunal when I bought me first EFI. In reality, I believe this direction/requirement is not for anything except to give the electric fuel pump enough time to build up sufficient pressure for the EFI system, but then what do I know about all of this electronic gizmoe stuff anyhow? zip, notta, and neetch. not very damn much.
