&7,000.00 IS NOTHING TO SNEEZE AT BUT IF THE MONEY IS NOT SO IMPORTANT I WOULD GO WITH THE 06 FOR THE REASONS YOU HAVE MENTIONED AND MORE IMPORTANTLY THE FACT THAT THE 06 HAS THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY IN THE DELPHI INJECTION SYSTEM AS OPPOSED TO THE MAGNELLI MERRILI INJECTION SYSTEM WHICH IS FAR MORE TROUBLESOME AND MORE DIFFICULT TO TUNE.
Totally agree with this statement. I had a 2000 and it did not run any where near as well as the 2005 and 2006's I have ridden
recently. The final drive gearing is higher, and the new bikes cruise so much easier at high speeds.
A buddy of my brothers called me today and asked me to check out his 2000 Ultra - 6800 miles.
He has two other HD's in the Garage both very cherry. My brother assured me this bike has been well taken care of.
It has - you can just tell!
This bike is showroom clean. It has Stage 1 with some nice sounding pipes.
He's asking $14,900.
The dilemma......
2006 - $22,000 OTD - my bike, my mods, my colors, & new warranty
Or
2000 - $14,900 His mods, It is blue, No Warranty
Hmmm What to do?
You could add alot of your own stuff for the $7000.00 savings.
As mentioned the Delphi is a better FI system, however I did like the dual runner Throttle Body that was part of the M&M FI system, I have a friend that has about 25K on her 2000 RK and has had no problems, you said he was asking 14,900, see if he would come down anymore and with all the previous info provided here, you should be able to weigh the advantages and disadvantages to help in your decision.
A mans gotta do what a mans gotta do. I had the same dilemma. I found a used one I liked with a ton of extras and low milage. And still came out way below the price of a new (bone stock, very plain) one. Good luck, take your time and get the bike that YOU want.
Buy used, YOU pay for repairs out of your pocket.
Buy new, you have a two year warranty where someone else pays for repairs.
Besides, you can get what YOU want, not someone elses colors or problems. It will never be your bike. It will always be his bike, the way he put it together with his accessories.
You should have a bike like a Burger King hamburger. HAVE IT YOUR WAY.
Why is he selling the 2000 Ultra? Is he going for a new 2006 Ultra?
Something to think about.
Also gotta think about the new EPA restrictions for '06 and newer models. If you want to do much in the way of engine mods, it may be easier on the older model. Just another one to drop in the balance. Lots of "go new" guys, but...I bought my Sporty used, and I've loved every minute of it, spent all the money I would have needed for a new bike playing with this one. On the flip side, I bought a new Street Glide, and I fully expect to love that one as well.
Just gotta balance out where your money is taking you, get the one that's going to get you closest to your perfect bike.
