Has anyone paid attention to the vibration/shake of the motor on their touring bike versus any other bike? The engine on my SG shakes a lot more than my Fatboy.
NOT STARANGE AT ALL. THE STREET GLIDE IS RUBBER MOUNTED AND THE FATBOY HAS HARMONIC BALANCERS IN ITS ENGINE TO REDUCE VIBRATION. IT IS CALLED AN 88B ENGINE AND IS SMOOTHER IDLING THAN A RUBBER MOUNT. ALL SOFTTAILS HAVE THE 88B ENGINE BUT ARE RIGID MOUNTED TO THE FRAME AS OPPOSED TO RUBBER MOUNTED LIKE THE TOURING BIKES AND OTHER FAMILY BIKES. THE HARMONIC BALANCER BY THE WAY ZAPPS ONE HALF HORSEPOWER TO RUN. JUST THOUGHT YOU MAY WANT TO KNOW THAT LITTLE TID BIT.
Yes, they nailed it re: the differences between the 88A and the 88B.
I've owned both. The smoothness of the 88A is nice, but almost too smooth in my opinion. I really dig the slow speed/idle vibration on the 88B in my bagger, and it smooths out at speed anyways, so its not an issue once your're cruising. Plus, the ole lady loves the vibration when we are sitting at a stop light
All of the above threads are correct but I would like to add that if you are feeling excessive vibration once under way I would suggest you have your dealer replace your front motor mount with the new type. Check out the thread on motor mount recall. My SG is in the shop now for that very reason.

I'm pretty sure you have that backwards, the b engine is in the softails.
