Default Sore back

Okay guys,

Myback is really starting to become an issue almost everytime I ride more than an hour or so. I was wondering what you guys think may be the best way to addressmy problem. New seat or what abouta rider backrest? I v'e talked with a couple guys that have the rider backrest and they reccomend it. Really don'twant to change the look of the bike too much if I don't have to...but my back is killin' me!I have the stock Roadking Classic seat and a stock Roadking seat. The classic has the cutout for the backrest.

Appreciate any help you can offer,

Thanks,

Bobby G

That's gonna be a tough one. Are you sitting upright, or slumped? Could be just the seat, or could be your style.

I can't ride for any length of time without my backrest....my lower back really needs the support. I would recommend the adjustable backrest to give you more options for seating position. You can always remove it when doing a little around town riding, but if you end up like me it will be a permanent fixture on the bike. It does take a little time getting used to the look, but your back with thank you. I found that with the adjustable backrest on my Harley I can actually spend more time on my bike than I can in either of my cars. The Accord has ajdustable lumbar support, but its not nearly as good as the backrest on the Harley.

It's only recently become an issue.Have mostly usedthe stock seat since I bought the bike and have been pretty comfortable, even on long rides. I try to ride as "upright" as comfortably possible, however I do catch myself "slumping"everynow and then. I'm told the backrest may help that.

Thanks 1450,

Bobby G

get the backrest. You will find it changes your whole riding expereince. You will be bale to ride much farther and much longer without back problems. And if you are just scootn' around town you can easily pull the backrest off.
I have really enjoyed my back rest. I got it becasue of the same problems you are having, and I never take it off now.

Backrests are a nice addition but what about your bars? My experience with RK's - couldn't get comfortable (back) with the original bars, always changed out or added risers.

Get a back rest and if you don't want to spend the money for an adjustable one get the non-adjustable and your back will LOVE you.

2 thing really helped me. First was getting a little more pull back in my bars (I'm only about 5'9") and the second was switching to a sundowner seat and a rider backrest. With the 2 done I can knock out many miles and don't have nearly the pain I used to. There is always some, but that is due to the 2 herniated disks from motocross racing when I was young and dumb, and invincible... Good luck.

backrest could help but only if your bars let you seat comfortably. best way to find out about the bars; have someone hold the bike upright/ride position and you sit on the bike, eyes closed, elbows bent and hands in a comfortable grip position. see how that compares to your current bars. Once you have that, a backrest allows you to slip forward and lean back and still have your hands on the bars.
