Have been doing a littlereading on here about the difference between the SERT and the PC3. My question is with the SERT. If the SERT is purchased from my dealer is it nornal that he would load the standard MAP for my set up (exhaust\intake) and also do the fine tuning? I have no experience in this and would prefer some one with a little know how do it.
The reason I am thinking SERT over PC3 is that you retain to O2 sensors and by doing so the F\Inj. can adapt to different conditions (temp, altitude etcl). Am I on the right track here or not?
Appreciate you input please. Thanks
If your dealer has a dyno, then yes you can purchase the SERT from them and have them download it and fine tune it. If your dealer doesn't have a dyno then they could load the SERT and put in a map that is close to your configuration and send you on your way. Or they could sell you the SERT and send you on your way and you could do the rest assuming youhad access to the cables. With the SERT there is no piggyback modem attached to your ECM, it gets removedonce the ECM is flashed through the little black pluggy thing Witha good tuner they can do a lot with theSERT.
The sert is the more versital of the 2 and has a data mode that can be very helpfull if you use it if you have no intent to use any of that then go withwhat the best tuner in you area will work with and knows best.
The SERT will not "adjust" to temps, altitude, modification changes etc to keep the A/F correct. You tune the engine to optimum with it at the temps and conditions the day of the tune and then live with what you got. It is a good system though, Iam not rying to knock it. Problem is that most times without some dyno time you only get fairly close to what could be a very good tune. Yo can add a piece such as the Pro-Tuner from HQ that works in conjunction with the SERT to maintain A/F and adjust according to conditions.
Other options for self tuning systems in the Thundermax Autotune, and the Daytonal Twin Tec TCFI IID, which I am running. They both self tune the A/F on the fly and provide with adjustability to timing, and a lot of other parameters.
I am sure your dealer would be glad to sell you the SERT, charge you for the install and then charge you hundreds and hundreds for dyno time to get it dialed in. All depends on what you want and what you have planned on modifications for the future.
