I ordered the Biketronics Kit for my bike.. when I talked to the girl there.. she said that mine doesnt need any extra brackets for mounting..( only 95 & up she said needed them..) My question is.. has anybody installed one of these on a pre 95 bike.. and can ya do it from the front without having to tear apart the fairing?? It sounds like all I have to do is transfer the latches from the stock radio to the new Sony.. ( Manual says ya can remove radio by accessing thru the headlight opening...)
According to the '91-'92 HD Service Manual I have, the radio can be removed without removing the outer fairing. The headlamp is removed so that the connectors on the rear of the radio can be accessed, then the radio is removed from the front or inner fairing side.
If you have the HD SM, or can borrow one, you probably have the same instructions for your '94.
My bike is an '04 EG, so my installation of the Biketronics interface and Sony headunit was different from your.s
Personally, I'd be inclinded to upgrade the speakers to 5.25" speakers; you'd probably need to buy the HD speaker adapters--but you'd have a truly contemporary and upgraded system if you did--Sony Xplod speakers from Wal-Mart are 4-way and cost 40 USD. The adapters are about 28 for the pair. Of course, you would need to remove the outer fairing to do this.
I've done installs on a Road Glide and two Electra Glide standards. All 2000 and up. I don't see why there would be any big difference.
The fairing did have to come off.
I don't see why thats to big a deal anyway, it's the easiest part of the project.
I would keep the phone number to biketronics handy.
I needed it the first time because their directions leave a lot to be desired (they suck).
Their not to quick to get back to you with an answerer on install or tech stuff either.
They make a great product but I had a lot of issues with their poor customer service.

What do the adpaters entail?? why would ya need adapters? don't they have two connections like regular speakers?? Being a Ham.. we tend to do things ourselves if we can....but thanks for the input....
I have the 93-94 SM.. I just wanted to see if anybody has done it.. sometimes the SM doesn't quite give the true instructions...
kyote: The speakers in your bike may be 4" speakers; at some point, HD started using 5.25" speakers. The speaker adapters are plastic "rings" (for lack of a better term) that hold a 5.25" speaker to permit the speaker's installation on the inner fairing. They have nothing to do with wiring--just physically mounting the speaker to the fairing--the adapters fit between the speakers and the inner fairing.
I don't know if your inner fairing will accept the screws necessary to mount 5.25" speakers using the adapters (that are still used by HD as recently as '07 models); but it might be worth pulling the fairing to check--it would be for me if I spent 300 to upgrade the headunit with the Biketronics interface/Sony headunit equipment.

Ah...ok.. got it now.. wasn't thinking in that way...
The speaker adapter PN is 77047-98; they are not left/right specific--the adapter works for both left and right. Also, although there is provision in the plastic adapter for four screws, only three are used.
