I have installed My SERT and have a couple of Q's. I used Map #78 which matches my setup (SE Pipes, AIR) Plugs seem tan to white. when i go to 6th gear,
i notice a rattling sound kind of like a spray paint can, the best way to describe it. I usually go to 6th at about 65MPH, am I being paranoid about setting up the SERT myself?
I have about 400 miles on it since I added the SERT download. getting 40MPG 2 up. Any thoughts?
rattling in 6th may be a timing or a/f issue if you can take a laptop in a backpack and record a sesion with the sert and ride where the problem is then you will know if the knock sensor is retarding the timing this should tell you if it is a problem. But I would check it because if it is early detination it can be a very bad thing. Follow the instructions in the sert software they are good at explaining this.
Thanks, let me be a little more clear and see if this makes since. as long as i am on the throttle it runs very smooth as long as i am going fast enough for 6th.
if i let off while in 6th that's when the rattle starts. i should hook it up like you suggested i guess.
65 is a little slow for dropping it into 6th. The key is to keep the RPM's over 2300, in any gear. The rattling you are hearing could possibly be "pinging" caused by lugging the engine. I get the same thing on my Stage 1 '07 Electra Glide when the rpm's drop down to 2100-2200.
Yep, I actually thought it was more of a lugging sound, but i am always shifting after 2500 and b-4 3000. this is obviously my first experience with 6 gears and am having a littlle problem getting used to it.
my 08 RKC doesn't lug in 6th gear at 60. according to the owners manual the upshift to 6th can be done at 55mph. i wouldn't use that shift point if i were going uphill but level or downhill is no problem.
I wouldn't put my bike in 6th gear at 55 if was riding solo DOWN a steep grade. The gearing in these bikes is just too tall for that. 65 if I'm on flat ground and just crusing.

Yes....I agree they do have a tall 6th gear, and it aint even a over drive. IIRC the final drive ratio is a 1:1. I just cant picture what the engine speed must be when some of these guys with after market 6 speeds hit sixth.....when it is a actual "over-drive". That has got to be some tall gearing....no?
