Muck,
Just did the cams on my 02 88" Road king.
I used the SE204s with adjustable pushrod.
SE race tuner.
Dyno before - HP 69.2 / TQ 79.3
Dyno after - HP 78.8 / TQ 92.8
not bad numbers for a low budget build and I'm happy with the results.
looking for information on a good set of cams to go in my bagger 2000 88 twin cam .i have stock heads on bike looking for a lift to go with
I would say really think it out. With a Harley we are never satisfied once the addiction sets in. Think of the big picture so you don't end up doing it twice.
I have the HQ-0034's on my bone stock '04 EG with Rinehart TD's and SE a/c and think they are excellent--very fast reving from 2500 rpm up. I believe Maineultraclassic had the Andrews 26 cams in his bike and installed the 0034's and prefers the latter--he posted some dyno sheets which, at least on his bike with the tune, the 0034's showed better overall performance.
Since most of my riding is solo, I am very happy to have the tq and hp come on at 2500 and up--if I was riding two-up with baggage, I might prefer a tq curve lower in the rpm range and choose the andrews 21.
Good luck with your research and be sure you have a competent tuner available to make it right.
EDIT: I am no expert on cam timing, but the slightly earlier close of the intake valve with the 0034's in comparison to the others will tend to create more tq, and the slightly later close of the exhaust valve will tend topromote a better fill of the cylinder with the new a/f charge entering the cylinder. However, I must also confess thatI doubt I could tell the difference with my butt dyno between most of the cams mentioned since I have never had the others and don'tknow how they perform on my bike. My bike dynoed at low 80'shp and 90 +/- tq, compared to the 74 hp/79 tq prior to the cam installation--not big differences in numbers but very big difference in theacceleration of the bike.
