Default Service Rant

I have been fighting a fuel consumption/power concern for almost 2 years. Saturday the dealer gave me the “that’s normal” speech. They have worked on it several times for the same problem (not successfully) and now it’s “normal”. My mileage will vary from 27 to 42 (most of the time in the 32 range). Same road, same winds, same load, same fuel, and one day I get 42 the next day I get 27. When the mileage is lower I also loose power. My dealer is 100 miles away and the next 2 dealers are 250 and 350 miles respectively. My ride is 2006 Ultra Classic with SERT, SE mufflers and air cleaner. I guess I just needed to rant. There is no solution. Thanks, I feel better now.

I got the same thing.
It is most likely an oil sumping issue;
Google Harley oil sumping
harley oil sumping symptoms
Harley oil sumping explained.

Dealers refuse to check for this and admit it happens on newer bikes.

I have been complaing of it for about 2 years on an 06 EGC.
I finally filed a claim in small claims court.
I named owner of sun hd in colorado owner of thunder mountain in colorado, their respective
service managers, and ceo ziemer as the defendants.
My complaint was over numerous other things that should be covered under warranty that HD refuses to cover. Plus the loss of power.
They also claimed it was my mufflers and stage one kit.
They claimed injectors- warranty replaced ( you need to check see if you have the updated injectors).
then they claimed I need the SERT to compensate the mufflers (BULL SH*T) bike ran excellently
with the performance combination for about 6 / 7 months.
Put sert in, still not right.
Two weeks later they rebuilt the engine, still not right.
Three months later they removed all performance items (without my permission) returned bike to me stock. Still loses power on the highway. WHICH IS WHERE SUMPING OCCURS AND IS MOST NOTICEABLE.
They kept my sert dongle, and refused to give me a refund on the parts and labor.
Stage 1 kit if done on day of delivery is covered by warranty.

Before you do court, you need to do a letter writing campaign.
Write certified return recipt letters (at least 3)to HD and the dealership OWNER and service manager.
Outline the problem and request it be properly diagnosed and corrected (if they will check for sumping, request you be present to observe it).
Same time file an online complaint to FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION. They get ENOUGH complaints
on the same problem, they will go to the Manufacturer with you to get it resolved.

BTW name the OWNER and SERVICE MANAGER and HD's CEO as defendants.
Then if it goes to court they must appear personally, not just their lawyers.
If you only name the dealership by name they don't have to appear, they can send their lawyer
in their place.

Then if they still refuse to correct the situation, do the small claims court.
If ENOUGH people would do this, they would get tired of responding to LEGITIMATE court filings
and start diagnosing all problems correctly!! And start fixing items under warranty .
BUT ONLY IF WE HERE AND ON OTHER FORUMS AND OUR RIDING FRIENDS START TAKING THEM TO TASK. But HD knows that you're all a bunch of whimpy azz whiners and won't go the distance. So they play the odds and keep F...ing all of us over.

I'd be takeing a ride to another dealer or a good indy shop. The dealer I got my scoot from gave me the " it's normal, they all do that" pitch once, i haven't spent a dime there since.
