Default Handlebar question

Hey guys,

I have an 06 Road King Classic with the stock handlebars still on it. I've had some back issues of late and have made some changes to my bike and my lifestye to avoid further back pain, particularly when riding. After several weeks of physical therapy to help get rid of the back pain...I don't want to mess it up again.

I changed the seat and added a rider backrest and both are great additions. However, I'm still finding myself reaching a bit for the bars. There'sso many different bars out thereI'm just not sure which to try.

I'm looking for some bars that are a little closer (to the rider) and maybe a little narrower. Nothing too drastic. Really don't want to change the look of the bike and prefer not to have to change cables and wiring etc. unless I absolutely have to.

Any suggestions as to what bars I should try?

As always , thanks in advance for any help you guys can offer.

Bobby G.

Look at the RK bars made by Wild1. They have 2 versions for the RK. You can use your stock cables but you will have to bend (massage) the brake line just a little (easy does it). I have used both sets on differnt RK's in the past and they are great bars. You can hide all your wires in the bars too !!

I'm looking into the same thing. Harley makes a "Reduced Reach" set. 56152-04. These are supposed to work with stock cables and brings control 2.75 inches closer.

Good luck

I have a '07 RK and recently put on a HD Chrome Hi-Bar #55954-00. It seems to work pretty well but I've only ridden about 5 miles on it - picked it up yesterday. I don't know if you have to change out the cable becauseI had the frontend and the controls chromed and the cables braided so I had to get new ones anyway. The bar sits up a higher and is pulled back a bit more than stock.

I have a lot of back issues. I went with 18" apes, and that has eliminated all back pain when riding. You might not want to go that extreme, though. My understanding is that you can go with heritage, or wide glide bars, and not have to change cables. It is also my understanding that the wide glide bars are a bit more narrow, and might be just what you are looking for. You might be able to find a used set, cheap, but I think even brand new ones are less than $50 bucks from the dealer... You might want to check into it...

Was originally consideringWild Ones but the price put me off so now I'm probably going to the Road King High Handlebar, way cheaper and I understand much more comfortable positionthan the stock ones are.

The Reduced Reach bar offers little gain over the Road King Custom stock bars that are on my '07. I looked at Heritage bars. I even rode a Heritage - terrible bar shape! The hand position is all wrong. The grip position made me feel like my hands were on a straight bar. I wish H-D made some kind of riser for the King.
