Default Fluid Question

Currently I'm running syn 3 throughout. I wasat a local shop for a rear tire and they use Drag Specialties fluids. How do they measure up?

Thanks

It might also mean that the majority of HDF members may have called it a night and that your thread hasn't been up very long. Give it some time.

I bought my EG at 6400 miles at an indy. Theyput fresh Drag Specialties dinooils inall three holes and a Drag Specialties chrome filter on beforeletting it go. Irode it this way untilthe 10k servicing. No complaints, but not long enough really to be a fair test.

I prefer Mobil 1 15w-50, $22 for a 5qt jug at Walmart.........4 for the motor and 1 for the primary. I use Mobil 1 75w90 in the tranny, $7 for a quart at Walmart.

The lack of responses is not about Drag Specialties. Oil threads are among the most numerous and over debated issues on this forum and alot of members are just plain tired of reponding to them. If you do a search on oil related subjects on the forum, you will come up with enough info and opinions to keep you reading for a month.
Speaking for myself, I use Amsoil 20/50 MCV in the engine, Redline Shockproof Heavy in the trans, and H-D Formula+ in the primary. Syn3 is just fine in engine and primary, but I would not use it or any motor oil in a gearbox. I prefer gear lube such as Bel-Ray85/190 or a synthetic like Redline that I currently use. Just makes the trans shift smoother and better lubricates the gears.
Otherwise, just search out the oil threads. You will find thatoil is more hotly debated than politics.

Thanks Mac57,

I'll use your advice and check those threads. My buddy and I are looking for an equal or better oil program that will not break our pocketbooks like the "MOCO" oils do.

Thanks again!!

Default RE: Fluid Question

Listen up, there are only a few actual oil refineries in the U.S..
They refine the crude into oil and other things. whether the end result be dyno
or synthetic ( mobil, sinclair, Pennsoil, quaker state, valvoline, etc)
drag specialities does not own their own refinery and NEITHER does HD.
They buy their product from one of the refineries, have it bottled in their bottles.
Or they buy bulk train loads, add their own additives and bottle it themselves.

so unless you are a chemical engineer and have your own lab, you are going to be
hard pressed to tell any difference from one synthetic (or dyno) from another
by looks, smell, and how it performs (except maybe in the various dyes they add for coloring).

I know some of you all will claim this one or that one is the best, or it performs better in yours than another brand, etc.
That is just your opinion and nothing more.
Granted different viscosities and shear strength of the molecules, may help quieten the noises
you hear, but that is about all.
Wear characteristics are so miniscule one from another you and I will never be able to tell the difference in day to day normal riding.
So go with the one brand you like the best and or the price you are willing and can afford to pay.
Based on the oil in the bike your bike is not going to wear out or disintegrate any sooner than anyone elses.
Your maintenance program and riding styles will be the telling factor.
But then this is JMO
