Seems like you see more and more dressers. Actually why I bought one in 06. I primarily ride it on trips and occasionally to work. On extended trip and the fact I've been putting the GF on the back it was tough keeping up with my bros. who added a dresser/new bike to their stable. I would pack plenty of tools and parts, they would pack extra threads and pretty much whatever theywanted. Same thing on the ride. Running 75/80 for most of the duration of a tank of gas was likebabying their new bikes and my 69 certainly was working a little harder. I felt a little out of place in comparison to their new rides. (I still blame my buddy who started this mess otherwise we would all still be riding the same old bikes) The creature comforts alone on the new bikes are day and night and hardly a comparison. Sheesh, even a fuel gauge. Nothing to em but hitting the start button. Reliable as heck. In fact, kind of like a new car. Maybe a bit too much. Just get on and ride. All in all their is so much comfort and reliablity in the new bikes/dressers that it just doesnt feel the same. Now instead of my bike seeming out of place its me. Maybe I just need to get with the times.

All that said, I'm thinking about selling mine. I much prefer riding my old bike. Its been with me for 20 years and is currently in its 3rd reincarnation since I have owned it.Maybe its the bond I have with it, maybe a little of the unknown. Perhaps more of the mystery that things could deviate a little from plan. Believe it or not I just feel the road more and lose myself when we are out. It just has more soul. We are leaving for a 5 day trip from So. Cal to No. Cal.in a few weeks. I'm planning on taking the old bike. My chick said she will deal with less comfort if thats what I want. even taking less. Maybe I can talk the boys into it for old times sake.

Hey "Ratcat", I remember the day when you wouldn't be caught on a bagger, not your type of bike. What happended to you? Did you get older & wiser, or did "Honey" say she wasn't doing anymore trips on the back of the Fatboy? Was it me who "pushed" and "prodded" you to get a bagger? Now, are you happy with the "Ultra", other than the seat not fitting your bony hindend. Are you spoiled by the tunes or "Honey" on her "Princess" seat? Sometime down the road I will be getting a newer bagger myseld, but the one I have still has quite a few more miles left on it.And it's "paid for".

Yo tanglefoot, ya hit the nail on the head as far as not being caught on a bagger a few years ago. Steel, chrome, and leather is all ya need to make Harley, and everything else would just slow ya down. Sure, I'd rather be back in the real day's of my moto-cross racing, when you and the bike where really one, to tackle anything the earth could through your way. But those days are long gone and the reality of it is, the older ya get...the more comfort ya need to make up for your aching bones.
So, here I am with a bagger, damn...It sucks to get old, but the bike sure is smooth and comfy.
I still wonder what is the longest jump with a bagger is.
Actually, I saw you where on line this morning, in the touring section, and I through up this post to get your attention, but you missed it.[sm=sigh.gif]

I like speedneeders response also,

After your ride yesterday, have you decided on what to do with your comfy bike that has an uncomfortable seat? Are you going to spend the big bucks and make an appointment with "Rich's" and have that seat conformed to your bottom end? We can all have fun with a "new" bike, getting it customized, especially ifit is not comfortable.
